XIANGNING, Shanxi, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in the flooded Wangjialing Coal Mine in north China's Shanxi Province rose to 25 Friday after two more bodies were found and rescuers continued the search for 13 miners still missing.About 260,000 cubic meters of water had been pumped out by Friday, two times more than expected, and rescuers were focusing on two sections where the 13 were believed trapped, Liu Dezheng, spokesman of the rescue operation, told a press conference. But the rescue was difficult as the water level had not dropped quickly enough and it was adjacent to a disused shaft full of water and toxic gas, he said.Rescuers believed the disused shaft had caused the initial flood when broken into by workers.A total of 261 miners were working below ground when the mine was flooded on March 28, and 108 miners escaped unharmed while 153 were trapped underground. On Monday, 115 miners were brought out of the mine alive after being trapped for more than a week. They are receiving medical care in five hospitals in Hejin and Taiyuan Cities, Liu said. All the 26 miners in Shanxi Aluminum Plant Hospital are allowed by doctors to be visited by their family members.A few workers told Xinhua that they are even gaining weight after more than a week of starvation."I feel better and better, more energetic today and I want to get off bed," said Liu Mingcai from Hunan, who lost ten kilograms when trapped underground.Another survivor Peng Guangzhong said "I feel much safer and is no longer afraid. Oh, life is good."The rescue headquarters received nearly four million yuan (586,000 U.S. dollars) in donations and "countless" materials.Li Guangfei, a 41-year-old farmer from neighboring Shaanxi Province, drove his truck for more than 20 hours with his wife to donate 10,000 yuan, about 10 percent of their annual income earned from growing potatoes and vegetables and transporting coal."I hope the money can help tired rescuers buy some milk," he said. His feeling was shared by Sun Yali, who sold pork near the mine. She brought 10 pigs to the site, hoping the rescuers could enjoy the meat after 12 days of round-the-clock work.Volunteers are also busy helping the rescue.Zhang Huajie, 29, a shop owner, has been helping out wherever he can and has donated goods worth of more than 10,000 yuan."My personal strength is weak, but I share the common mission of rescuing the trapped," he said.

NANNING, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Three people were killed and one was missing amid heavy rains that pounded a scenic city of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for the past two days, Guangxi's flood-control and drought relief headquarters said Saturday.Continuous rainstorms triggered mud-rock flows Thursday night in Ziyuan County of Guilin City, killing three people there, the headquarters said.On Friday morning, a fisherman was swept away by rain-triggered floods in Gongcheng County of Guilin.Rainstorms had incurred property losses to about 19,000 people in Guilin as more than 30 houses collapsed, 1,100 hectares of farmland were inundated and many public facilities were damaged. The economic damage was estimated at 13.2 million yuan (1.9 million U.S. dollars). In southern province of Guangdong, three rainstorms pelted Guangzhou, the provincial capital, over the past week, with rainfall up to 440 mm, a record high in 25 years. The precipitation equalled to a quarter of the city's annual rainfall, according to meteorological statistics, said Lin Liangxun, Guangdong's chief weather forecaster.Guangdong has reported one missing. More than 35,000 people have been affected by the three rounds of heavy rains.Latest weather forecast said the rain is expected to weaken over the weekend. In the central province of Hunan, more than 8,000 people were stranded Saturday after heavy rains inundated the key roads of a town. Rescuers were transporting food and daily necessities to the region through a small chain bridge. The rain triggered mountain torrents in Xupu County on Wednesday and Thursday, causing damage to its four major bridges and the trunk roads linking Shanxi Town to the outside. Rescuers had to carry first-aid materials on their shoulders to the stranded population.Water level in the worst-hit Shanxi Town reached 2.7 meters in the street, said Zhang Shanwen, Party chief of Shanxi Town.Weather forecast said a new round of rains will hit the region on Sunday and Monday.

YUSHU, Qinghai, May 20 (Xinhua) -- A mental health facility was established in Yushu, northwest China's Qinghai Province, Thursday to provide psychological counseling for the victims of last month's massive earthquake. The facility will ease the quake-victims' psychological trauma. The April 14 quake took the lives of at least 2,200, injured another 12,135 and left countless emotionally scared and reeling from the loss of family members and friends."It may take five to ten years for victims to recover from their psychological trauma.
