SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - Some local stores are having a hard time keeping up with the demand from senior shoppers who are showing up for the special early morning hours amid concerns over COVID-19. Over the phone, a Costco employee in Santee told 10News that more than 1,500 seniors showed up on Tuesday and the store hasn't been that busy since Christmas or Thanksgiving. SANTA ANA (CNS) - Two more people in Orange County have tested positive locally for the novel coronavirus, health officials said today, but federal test results are still pending to confirm the diagnoses.According to the Orange County Health Care Agency, the cases are a man in his 60s and a woman in her 30s who had recently traveled to countries with widespread outbreaks of what is officially known as COVID-19. The pair tested positive in Orange County, but test results were sent to the U.S.Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to confirm the results. "The more you look for something, the more likely you are to find it," said Dr. Nichole Quick, the county's health officer. "Now that our Public Health Laboratory is able to perform COVID-19 testing, we expect to see more cases here in Orange County. Our residents should take everyday precautions to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses like covering your coughs and sneezes, avoiding touching your face, and washing your hands frequently."Another person in the county who contracted the virus earlier this year has fully recovered.The news comes as organizers of the second biggest annual convention in Anaheim announced the postponement of the event due to concerns over the virus. San Ysidro, CA (KGTV)- The border wait times to cross into the United States are significantly shorter Tuesday.According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection App, the wait times at the border in San Ysidro averaged around an hour depending on the time of day.In the last few days, border crossers reported waiting up to ten hours to cross into the U.S."A lot of people going to the border five, six hours before their work entry, it's been crazy," said Jose Montanez.Montanez is a married father of two. He lives in Tijuana, but crosses to work as a manager at a taco factory. He said the lines this weekend were especially bad, even in the pedestrian lanes."Four hours, five hours waiting in line, standing in line, you get tired," said Montanez.Last Friday, CBP began "adjusting operations" to focus on essential travel. The goal is to slow the spread of COVID-19.A spokesman with CBP sent 10News a statement, that reads in part:"According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, a recent survey of more than 100,000 travelers on the southwest border found that the vast majority of cross-border travel by U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents is for purposes that are not deemed essential. To respond to the ongoing public health crisis and protect local southwest border communities, CBP is taking measures to discourage non-essential travel to and from Mexico to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the United States. (AP) — An active-duty U.S. Air Force sergeant accused of killing a Northern California sheriff’s deputy in an ambush-style attack was a leader for a military base’s elite security force. Officials said Monday that Staff Sgt. Steven Carrillo was a team leader for the Phoenix Ravens that protects airfields at Travis Air Force Base. Carrillo has been arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting Santa Cruz sheriff’s sergeant Damon Gutzwiller on Saturday afternoon in Ben Lomond, an unincorporated area near Santa Cruz.
