SANTA ANA (CNS) - A Colorado man was behind bars Wednesday on suspicion of killing an 11-year-old girl in Newport Beach in 1973, with authorities saying DNA technology helped them track down the suspect.James Alan Neal, 72, was arrested around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in connection with the death of Linda Ann O'Keefe, who lived in Corona del Mar, Newport Beach police Chief Jon Lewis said.The girl disappeared while walking home from summer school on July 6, 1973, and her strangled body was recovered the following morning in a ditch in the Back Bay area. Police said the girl was last seen standing near a man in a blue or turquoise van.Lewis credited ``the latest in DNA technology'' for helping crack the case that has stymied investigators for more than four decades.``We have never forgotten Linda or the tragic events of July 1973,'' Lewis said at a news conference announcing the arrest. "I mean, it's still gotta be on the bus."That was the first time Rogers was separated from his bags and the thousands of dollars worth of medicine that he needed for an extended trip. When Rogers finally got to Pensacola a day later, the bags were nowhere to be found."So I had to wind up buying a plane ticket to get back to Ohio so I could get my doctors to get me some more meds," said Rogers.Rogers' bus and plane tickets bringing him to Pensacola, Florida and back to Ohio.A month later, back in Sandusky, Rogers still doesn't have his bags even after constant calls from Roger's roommate, Karin Lucas."A fiasco," said Lucas, describing when she calls Greyhound. "I get transferred constantly. Representatives pass the buck."Rogers and Lucas say when they reach out to Greyhound for help, they're surprised when a live person is on the other end of the line.Lucas says they could get 0 for each of the three lost bags through the Greyhound claim process. But the emergency plane ticket was nearly 0 itself. (KGTV) - Students at Cal State-San Marcos will spend time Tuesday and Thursday this week painting as a way to process their emotions in the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida.They're making a pair of murals, in conjunction with the Art Miles Project.One mural features 17 peace signs, each with the name of one of the victims of the shooting. The other features a dove with 17 rays of color coming out of it, also honoring the victims.Organizers say it's their way to let the victims know they have support from all over. It also helps the people who are painting sort through their own emotions and grief."I see the healing power that it has," says Joanne Tawfilis, the Director of the Art Miles Project, which organizes the murals.She's been doing murals like this for 20 years. Every time there is a major shooting or natural disaster, she organizes a way for people to paint."It makes me feel good," she says. "But it also makes me feel sad that we’re in a state in the world that this violence continues."Over the last 20 years, the Art Miles Project has been involved in painting 5,000 murals in over 100 countries. SAN MARCOS (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Tuesday for help in identifying and locating a man suspected of starting a vegetation fire near a San Marcos place of worship last week.The blaze happened shortly before 11:55 a.m. on Dec. 10, at 1111 La Moree Road, south of state Route 78, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The fire burned roughly 100 square feet of vegetation near a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, but firefighters extinguished the flames before any buildings were damaged, officials said.Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and nearby surveillance cameras captured video and images of the suspect, described as a white man riding a mountain bike and carrying a brown backpack.
