CAIRO, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China and Africa look forward to deepening cooperation in various fields, especially science and technology, industry, agriculture and environment, said Egyptian and Chinese officials at a science and technology expo, which opened here on Thursday.     In the opening ceremony of China Exhibition on Innovative Technologies and Products in Egypt, Minister of Higher Education and the State for Scientific Research of Egypt, Dr. Hani Hillal, said that his country reaffirms the support for scientific and technological cooperation between China and Africa.     "China exhibition is an important forum to know more about the progress China has reached in scientific and technological fields, and it is also an important forum for the convergence of scientists and researchers with the men from industry and innovation," Hillal added.  An electric vehicle is on display during an exhibition showcasing Chinese innovative technologies and products in Cairo, capital of Egypt, on Dec. 3, 2009. More than 180 new technologies and products with Chinese proprietary innovations highlighted the three-day exhibition, kicking off here on Thursday    "Egyptian-Chinese relations are steadily growing and several weeks ago Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao opened the 4th ministerial conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC)," said Magid George, Egypt's Minister of State for the Environment.     George said that the expo is an important event to present Chinese technology to African and Arab countries because China is considered a leading nation in development, expressing hope that the exhibition will provide an opportunity for the countries to get acquainted with progress in technology and innovation amid great challenges.     This exhibition is held in line with the eight measures announced by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao during the 4th ministerial conference of FOCAC held last month in Sharm el-Sheikh to promote technological cooperation between China and Africa, said Special Representative of the Chinese Minister of Science and Technology Zheng Guoan, noting that it could transfer technological expertise and experience to African countries.     "This exhibition is part of a technological partnership program aimed at strengthening China-Africa relationship and helping African countries raise the technological capability," he added.     The Chinese Ambassador in Cairo, Wu Chunhua, pointed out that China is the largest developing country in the world and Africa has the most developing countries in the world, stressing that such cooperation would benefit both sides.     "This exhibition is a good platform and mechanism to achieve mutual understanding between China and Africa," he added. BEIJING, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Ruling parties of China and Japan on Thursday pledged to deepen trust and work together for a stronger strategic relationship of mutual benefit between the two countries.     The pledge came out of a meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) Ichiro Ozawa in Beijing on Thursday afternoon. Ozawa is leading a delegation of 600-strong members, including 146 DPJ lawmakers from the upper and lower houses of the Japanese Diet, for a four-day visit in Beijing. The program has so far sent about 350 Japanese lawmakers and more than 2,000 representatives from various circles to visit China.

BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting U.S. President Barack Obama started official talks in Beijing on Tuesday morning to discuss bilateral ties and global issues of mutual concern.     The official talks were held at the Great Hall of the People after a close-door meeting between the two presidents.     It is their third meeting this year following one in London in April and another in New York in September.     Obama is on his first state visit to China on Nov. 15-18 as guest of Hu. He kicked off the visit on Sunday in Shanghai.     

BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Saturday called for tightened prevention measures against A/H1N1 influenza as the country recorded an increasing number of people catching seasonal influenza upon the arrival of winter.     In a visit to a children's hospital in the Chinese capital, Wen said the country faces severe challenges in the prevention and control of A/H1N1 and some areas are likely to have a sharp increase in the number of patients infected by the epidemic.     He said the country is fully confident and capable of doing well the prevention and control work of the A/H1N1 flu and would spare no effort in helping patients, especially those with severe symptoms, to recover. BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong Wednesday said China will broaden international exchanges and learn from other countries in heritage protection.     "China will strengthen cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and other international organizations," Liu said at a ceremony held here Wednesday marking the 30th founding anniversary of China's National Commission for UNESCO.     "The Chinese government will keep carrying out international conventions and actively explore scientific laws and effective methods in heritage protection," Liu said.     China will stick to the principle of "preservation first" and avoid over-exploitation and destructive construction, Liu said.     China is a country with rich cultural and natural heritage. So far, a total of 38 heritage sites in the country have been included in the World Heritage List, and 29 kinds of non-material cultural heritage have been included in the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
