Blockbuster founder Wayne Huizenga has died. He was the only entrepreneur to create three different Fortune 500 companies during his career -- Blockbuster video, Waste Management and AutoNation.At one time, Huizenga, 80, had owned three sports teams where he lived in South Florida -- the Florida Marlins, the Florida Panthers and the Miami Dolphins. He was worth .8 billion, according to Forbes."He had a magic ability to create a business that was unmatched," said AutoNation CEO Mike Jackson, who confirmed the death. "Ideas were exploding in his head. He was bound and determined to out entrepreneur every other entrepreneur."Huizenga was awarded expansion franchises to bring both the National Hockey League and Major League Baseball to Miami in 1993. The following year he purchased the Miami Dolphins. While he owned the three sports teams at the same time, he didn't run all three major companies simultaneously. Instead he would sell one company and move onto the next idea he had."He started out on the back of a garbage truck in Fort Lauderdale. Then he bought a truck, and eventually he created Waste Management," said Jackson. "Then he rented a video and decided he could do better and next thing you know he was opening up Blockbuster store a day. Then he sold that to Viacom and decided there had to be a better way to buy a car and he created AutoNation."Blockbuster closed all of its stores in four years ago as consumers shifted to streaming and on demand video, but his other two companies remain dominant players in their respective fields. BOULDER, Colo. -- Officers across the country are getting backlash after the deaths of George Floyd and others at the hands of law enforcement. One officer wants people know there’s a human behind each badge and says now is a time for everyone to come together."To those of you who don't know me, I’m Vinnie Montez, a third generation Mexican American born in Boulder, Colorado," is how Montez starts his now viral video.In the video Montez, a Patrol Commander for the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, states "for the first time in my life, I’m deeply hurt because I have concluded people don’t think much of law enforcement."Vinnie Montez wears a badge and uniform to work, but he said those symbols don't define or speak for him.The commander with the sheriff's office also happens to be a stand-up comedian. His latest material is more commentary than comedy.His five-minute video has been viewed more than 1.3 million times since June 21."It’s really humbled me to be a voice, to create something from our perspective that is not intended to offend anyone, but just share our perspective and encourage people to get to know local law enforcement," Montez said of the post's meteoric views.That perspective includes the dark parts of the job we often don't see. Montez gets personal in his essay. He alludes to several difficult experiences from his law enforcement career."Do you know what it’s like to give CPR to a 17-year-old kid? To be covered in blood, to do everything you can to save his life but then die?" Montez asks in his video. (KGTV) - On Thanksgiving Day, one Bonita family hosted dozens of volunteers who assembled gift bags for children in need.The tradition started seven years ago when Diane Zoura and her family went to an orphanage in Tecate, Mexico, and helped with their Christmas Party. They brought gifts and loved the impact they had on the children.Every year since, they raise money and stuff gift bags for foster children in San Diego. In 2017, the County of San Diego reported 2,300 children in foster care. The average age was 8 years old and most of those kids suffered neglect or abuse from their birth-parents. This year their gifts are reaching farther, partnering with the non-profit Build A Miracle, to give presents to kids in need in Tijuana."It takes ,000 to build and furnish homes for families in need in Tijuana, Mexico," 13-year-old Gabriel said. He and his family raised money and sponsored homes in the past. Thursday he was stuffing bags to give to those in need."Just imagine without their home they're just living in this rain, getting wet and their clothes are soaked and they might not have anything else to change into," he said.Each bag has an assortment of items. Some on the list: bubbles, slime, puzzles, coloring books and crayons and a beanie."Especially orphans and those who don't have that much, who don't feel loved, so we're trying to plant seeds of hope and seeds of love into these children's lives," Zoura said. "If we just share love with other people how much better would the world be?"Zoura wants people to realize they don't have to be well off or dedicate a ton of time to volunteering to still make an impact, and that everyone can do their part to add a little magic this holiday season.This year the crew stuffed 750 bags, they hope with more help they can double it next year. 1838

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Florida Atlantic University's commencement ceremony scheduled for 5pm today has been canceled and the Student Union is being evacuated after the school received what law enforcement considers a credible threat.An FAU source tells WPTV that right as the ceremony was about to start, a note was found in a women's bathroom stuck to the mirror that contained a threat in reference to the graduation ceremony.Sean Brammer, Chief of FAU Police, would not specify what type of threat was issued, saying only that it was specific to the commencement.The school is considering different options on rescheduling the commencement ceremony, but have not announced their intentions yet.FAU Assistant Vice President Joshua D. Glanzer said "There were 462 students scheduled to participate in the ceremony. Every effort will be made to give these students the recognition they deserve." 900

Bottles of water, bags of clothes and foldout tables are set up and ready at a Phoenix church awaiting the next busload of asylum-seeking families released by ICE.Pastor Angel Campos at Monte Vista Cross-Cultural Church confirms his church is temporarily housing families upon their release from ICE. "They leave their homes; they leave everything," Campos said. "They say that their belongings mean nothing without their lives."Back in October, ICE officials announced they were releasing an increased number of families amid a surge of them showing up at the border and a limit to how long they can detain families. "You hear the stories; you hear the pain," Campos said. An unknown number of Phoenix-area churches are temporarily taking in the families upon their release from ICE as they work to connect with other relatives across the country. The families are equipped with ankle monitors and still have to go through the immigration court process.Statistics show the number of "family units" that are apprehended along the Southwest border has surged in recent months. Campos says he reached out to ICE to offer up his church to help with this process. He says he is surprised by how many people have shown up in buses, estimating more than 800 people have come through his church since early October, with the most recent group of people arriving this past Thursday. Campos said nearly everyone from that group has since left the church. "We have to be strong, not to fall in love with them so much that it hurts you when they leave," Campos said. Campos said donations, including clothes and bottled water, are welcome.  1692
