BEIJING, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Three years ago when Jason Shen stood on the Times Square for the first time, he didn't expect that a video clip he produced could be shown at the "Crossroads of the World"."In the eyes of an advertisement specialist, Times Square is a dream, where the biggest screen was as tall as a four-storey building and every day about 70,000 passengers could see the ads," said the chief executive officer of Shanghai Lowe & Partners advertising company.The company won the bidding of producing China's national publicity video in November 2009."Our biggest challenge was how to show a real China within just 60 seconds," he recalled.After brainstorming, his team agreed that the main theme should be human beings."The persons appearing in the video clip were like messengers to convey China's friendliness to the world," he said.The video was a step China takes in its foreign relations efforts, and a chance for Shen individually to fulfill a dream.Working as the chief executive producer, Shen gave some details in the filming of the video."Famous actress Zhang Ziyi was a very amiable person," he said. "She was very cooperative and the dress she wore was decided by arranged by our team."John Woo was excited hearing about the plan to make such a national publicity video work. "He told me that it was like reviewing the excitement when hearing China won the bidding of the 2008 Beijing Olympics."Deng Yaping, the four-time Olympic table tennis champion, was not sure how to pose in front of the camera."I told her that she just need to smile like when Ex-Olympic Chief Juan Antonio Samaranch put the gold medal around her neck," Shen said.All celebrities agreed to appear in the video free-of-charge.The smiling faces at the end of the 60-second video were gathered at the Shanghai World Expo, when it was hot and the temperature reached 40 degrees Celsius.But Shen and his team were left with some pity. "It was not easy to have six astronauts including Yang Liwei in the filming. But we could have made the video more lively by asking them to change more poses," he said.After the video was aired, Shen was sometimes questioned if the 59 persons in the short video could represent the entire of China."A good advertisement should give audiences strong visual impact and be enlightening," he said. "I believe that the celebrities and ordinary people from all walks of life could represent a mild and elegant image of China."The 60-second national publicity video is shown 15 times every hour on the Times Square from January 17 to February 14. It is expected to be aired on CNN from January 17 to February 13.A 15-minute documentary produced by the team, which is to be used at important events of Chinese embassies, was also finished. It will show the beautiful scenery of China.

"Engineers need that time to troubleshoot an issue that resulted in today's launch scrub."During Friday's countdown, engineers detected a failure in one of two heater circuits associated with Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) 1. BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) -- The issue of third-party online payment permits in China this week will boost the sector's development through giving it a legal status, analysts said.The People's Bank of China (PBOC), or the central bank, on Thursday announced its first batch of electronic payment licenses to 27 qualified third-party online payment platforms, including Alipay, Tenpay and 99bill.It also stipulated that all the third-party payment businesses should obtain licenses before September, or cease doing business.The move has long been awaited after the central bank said in June last year that non-financial institution payment service would be regulated, and that all businesses involved in the service must get licenses before Sept. 1, 2011.The license covers payment transactions such as Internet payment, mobile phone payment, bank card acquiring service, issuance and accept of prepaid cards and currency exchange.The move provides a legal status for the third-party payment sector so that it can develop in a more standard and healthy way, said Zhang Meng, an analyst with Analysys International, an Internet market information provider.Third-party payment enterprises refer to those non-financial operators who work as the third party between buyers and sellers to provide payment settlement through Internet, telephones or mobile phones.China has the world's highest number of Internet users, with about 457 million netizens, among whom 148 million were active online shoppers as of the end of last year.China's online payment topped 1.09 trillion yuan (167.29 billion U.S. dollars) last year. The figure was 397.3 billion yuan in the first quarter this year, almost doubled year-on-year.99bill CEO Guan Guoguang called the issue of the third-party payment licenses "a milestone" for China's e-payment sector.Requiring that enterprises must be licensed to operate e-payment businesses will help standardize the sector, improve services and boost integration of e-payment and e-commerce, said Guan.The first group of e-payment license holders include Alipay.com Co. Ltd; Tenpay.com, an e-payment platform developed by Chinese Internet giant Tencent Holdings and Shengfutong, launched by Shanda Interactive Entertainment.Five applicants, however, failed to get licenses.Businesses with licenses will attract more investment and high-end personnel, says iResearch analyst Cheng Shanbao.For those without a license, they will be merged or have to pull out of the sector, according to Yeepay CEO Tang Bin.The central bank selected enterprises that have good management and risk control systems, as well as profit prospects, Zhang Meng said.Mergers are inevitable as the cut-off date of Sept. 1 is approaching, he added.The third-party payment enterprises mainly profit from 1 to 4 percent fees, but analysts believe profits from the fees might be reduced due to fierce competition.

CHIAYI, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chen Yunlin, the Chinese mainland chief negotiator with Taiwan, discussed cooperation prospects on Friday with fishermen and farmers in Chiayi in southern Taiwan.Chen, president of the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), led a 50-member delegation and spoke at a seminar attended by more than 70 business people from both the mainland and Taiwan.He said small and medium-sized enterprises on both sides "played an important role in cross-Strait economic development, employment and in maintaining social stability.""Small- and medium-sized businesses are an important part of cross-Strait economic exchanges," he said, adding that among the more than 80,000 Taiwanese enterprises investing on the mainland, over 50 percent are small and medium-sized companies.Chen said that efforts should be made to enhance cooperation between small and medium-sized enterprises on the mainland and those in central and southern Taiwan.The mainland delegation arrived in Chiayi from Kaohsiung after investigating the investment environment with local business leaders. They arrived in Taipei on Wednesday at the invitation of Chiang Pin-kung, chairman of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF). Both the SEF and the ARATS are authorized by the two sides to handle cross-Strait affairs.Chen said that since 2005, the mainland bought a large amount of farm and fishing products from Taiwan, which greatly boosted sales of Taiwanese products."Many renowned mainland distribution firms are present here at the seminar to seek cooperation opportunities with Taiwan's farmers and fishermen so that the sale of Taiwanese products on the mainland could increase steadily," he said.Chiang said the farming and fishing industries were the most important sectors in southern Taiwan.He added that the tax-reduction plan of the cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement's (ECFA) "early harvest" program, which took effect on January 1, covered 13 categories for farming products and five categories for fishing goods. Chiang said the plan was an opportunity for the industry to expand its exports to the mainland.He noted that the "early harvest" program's duty exemption also covered sectors like textiles, machinery components, and "all related to small- and medium-sized enterprises."Chiang said Friday's seminar was meant to promote cooperation between smaller businesses across the Strait, to deepen the effect of the ECFA to benefit both sides.The mainland delegation will continue its trip in southern Taiwan and return to Taipei late Saturday.
