(AP) — Long Beach police say a shuttle bus driver who took passengers on a long, scary ride wasn't kidnapping them: he was just lost.Passengers began jumping out of the bus windows Thursday night when their expected five-minute ride to the "Dark Harbor" Halloween event at the Queen Mary tourist attraction turned into a long ride into neighboring Carson.The Long Beach Press-Telegram says police report the driver became disoriented by street closures.Some of the 20 to 30 passengers on board said the driver refused to heed their demands to stop the bus. Cellphone video showed some jumping out of windows. After several 911 calls, authorities stopped the bus.Authorities say they're still looking into a battery allegation that the driver punched a man who wanted him to stop.Passengers told KABC-TV they pleaded with the driver to stop and let them off but he wouldn't respond, and when he struck a rider they began jumping out the bus windows. 971

SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A North County family has a message for a prankster who lit a firework on their doorstep. The Bennetts family's security video caught what appeared to be a teenager lighting a firework and setting it down on the porch of their San Marcos home last Friday night. The teen is then seen ringing the doorbell before running off. “I don’t know exactly what kind of firework it was. But it made a pretty big boom,” homeowner Melanie Bennetts said. She said there was a bench with pillows on their porch that could have caught on fire. Her husband was home at the time but didn’t answer the door. The Bennetts’ have two teenagers, but they did not recognize the young man in the security video. Bennetts said kids have egged and toilet-papered their house in the past. She doesn’t make a big deal about it because she understands kids will be kids. But in this case, she hopes kids and parents take note of the incident, and that it becomes a lesson that some actions could have serious consequences. “We live in Southern California where fire is not a joke,” she said. 1104

The outage was brief and service has been restored.The culprit was a configuration issue from Level 3, a telecommunications and internet service provider owned by CenturyLink. In a statement to CNN Tech, CenturyLink said a "configuration error" disrupted service and technicians restored service in 90 minutes.CenturyLink declined to provide further details.Though Level 3 was responsible for the issue, it affected other internet providers like Comcast. That's because Level 3's infrastructure delivers content for other internet services.Comcast said the service disruption to its Xfinity internet service has been resolved.According to reports from Down Detector, a website that monitors internet outages, Comcast and Level 3 connectivity was impacted nationwide beginning around 10 a.m. Pacific.Other internet service providers including Spectrum, Verizon, and AT&T showed a spike in connectivity issues, too, though they were not as widespread. (AT&T has agreed to acquire CNN's parent company Time Warner, and the deal is pending regulatory approval.) It's unclear if the spikes were related to the Level 3 outage.The website does not provide numbers of people affected.Following public complaints of widespread outages, rumors temporarily circulated online that the outage was a coordinated hack of some sort.
