PRETORIA, April 1 (Xinhua) -- China has pledged to import more value-added products from South Africa to optimize bilateral trade.Top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin made this pledge on Wednesday when he delivered a key-note speech at the China-South Africa Economic and Trade Forum in Pretoria.South Africa was the last leg of Jia's 10-day African tour which has already taken him to Cameroon and Namibia. KHARTOUM, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese official said Saturday that the China-Arab Cooperation Forum constitutes an important platform to upgrade the economic, commercial and social ties between China and the Arab world."The China-Arab Cooperation Forum is important as it constitutes one of the major mechanisms to enhance and strengthen the economic and commercial relations between the Arab states and China," Abdul-Baqui Jailani, Sudanese state minister for humanitarian affairs, told Xinhua, one week before a ministerial conference of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum scheduled for May 13, in Tianjin, China.Jailani regarded the Sino-Sudanese cooperation as a model for the Arab countries to follow suit, saying that "Chinese experience in Sudan deserves to be studied thoroughly and it deserves to be repeated elsewhere in any other African or Arab country"."I think if we take for example oil industry, exploration and production services, the Chinese have proved to be at the highest level of development in this industry in particular, and I think we can develop this in other similar countries where there are reserves of petroleum," he added.He went on to say that "China is working with full transparency; they can build confidence with others without any hindrances or obstacles."The Sudanese official further called upon the Arab and African countries as well to give the Chinese a chance to invest and cooperate, adding that "such cooperation will result in mutual benefit for both China and others nations."He affirmed that China's contribution to establishment of development projects in Sudan would help in achieving lasting stability and peace in the country, saying that "for example, if we concentrate on development, on infrastructure, we will come to peace in Darfur. XIANGNING, Shanxi, April 11 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in the flooded Wangjialing coal mine in north China's Shanxi Province rose to 28 after one more body was recovered Saturday afternoon.Rescuers are searching for the 10 miners who remained missing, the rescue headquarters said.About 280,000 cubic meters of water had been pumped out by Saturday, more than two times of the planned volume, said the spokesman Liu Dezheng at a press conference.The water in section two had been all drained up and the search work there had been finished, Liu said.More than 60,000 meters of water had been pumped out in section one, nearly four times than planned, but the water level fell much slower than expected, Liu said.Toxic gas also brought great difficulties to rescue work, he said.A total of 261 miners were working below ground when the mine was flooded on March 28, and 108 miners escaped unharmed while 153 were trapped underground.On Monday, 115 miners were brought out of the mine alive after being trapped for more than a week. They are receiving medical care in five hospitals in Hejin and Taiyuan Cities.

BEIJING, April 23 (Xinhua) -- China's trade surplus this year will see a decline from the 2009 level despite a recovery in foreign trade, the People's Bank of China, the central bank, said here Friday.An increase in orders would push up export growth to more than 20 percent in the second quarter, while import growth would also stay high due to surging domestic demand and rising import prices, said the bank in a report released on its website."Exports have returned to pre-crisis levels and imports have hit all-time highs after seasonal adjustments," it said.The report said China still faced deteriorating trade conditions with rising trade protectionism and the unstable global economic recovery.China's trade surplus stood at 196 billion U.S. dollars last year. Rebuilding projects should be finished within three years, with a priority on residential buildings and public facilities such as schools and hospitals, Wen said.Wen made the call in a speech, which was published Sunday by the State Council General Office, at a meeting to discuss relief work on May 1 during his second visit to the quake zone in Yushu prefecture.Wen said supplies of food, cooking oil, vegetables, fuel and relief allowances should be provided to ensure living standards, and schools should resume as soon as possible in tents or temporary buildings.Debris should be cleared quickly, and the disposal of garbage, human waste and livestock carcases must be properly carried out, Wen said.Adequate disinfectant chemicals and equipment should be prepared, and authorities should be alert for outbreaks of disease, Wen said.Damaged roads and bridges should be repaired and airport operations should be guaranteed to maintain efficient transport. Water and power supplies should also be restored rapidly, Wen said.Agricultural production should be restored, and the government must help farmers buy seed and fertilizers. Favorable taxation, employment, finance and land use policies would also be enacted, Wen said.The premier praised ethnic and religious groups who had played important role in relief work.
