She was appointed in 2018. During her speech she said, “I know I stand here as first woman to serve as permanent president to lead this university, but I recognize that I stand on the shoulders of women who have shaped the identity of SDSU from the very beginning”. Looking at the coming years, she says there is critical work that needs to be done. (KGTV) - A new website from the City of San Diego's Planning Department is asking residents to help re-imagine the Clairemont neighborhood.Clairemontplan.org is like an online public meeting, where people can look at different ideas for adding housing and retail to the neighborhood and weigh in on which ones they like the most."We understand not everyone can make an in-person meeting at the time we schedule it for or attend a city council hearing in the middle of the day," says City Planning Director Mike Hansen.As MTS builds a new trolley line through Clairemont along the I-5, the area is coming up with a new community plan. The city wants to add housing and retail to the area to help meet new goals for housing, transportation and climate change.To do that, they're looking to add density to the neighborhood.The website identifies eight areas of Clairemont that could be redeveloped. It asks users to make changes to at least three areas while adding 5,000 new homes. At least 40% of the houses need to be near the trolley.To help, it offers basic renderings of what different development could look like in each neighborhood."We wanted to try to find something that allowed people to get into the weeds if they wanted to," says Tait Galloway, the Program Manager who helped design the website. "But, this still allows them to do it within 15-20 minutes."The website will be available until March 14th. After that, the answers will be collected and used as the city devises the new Clairemont Community Plan. They hope to present it by the end of 2020.City leaders hope this will become a template for other neighborhoods and a way to get more people involved in the process. SAN DIEGO, Calif (KGTV) - New recommendations aim to help the thousands of teenagers living with depression who are suffering in silence. The American Academy of Pediatrics released new guidelines for primary care doctors to screen young people. They say 2 out of 3 depressed teens are not being identified by their doctors and not getting the care they need. One survey doctors can give to patients is just two questions, another is nine. The purpose is not to establish a final diagnosis but rather screen for depression in a "first step" approach. San Diego Pediatrician Jaime Friedman believes it's a positive step to help young people and that it will be fairly easy to incorporate into visits. She will soon be using tablets on which parents and teens can answer questions related to their visit, they'll also be able to conduct the depression screening on them. Doctors are also being advised to talk to families about safety plans, removing lethal medications or guns from the home to prevent suicide. The AAP recommends young people get screened at least once a year starting at age 12.  1144
