(KGTV) — This month, Legoland California will celebrate its 20th birthday with new entertainment, desserts, and a special deal for youngsters.On March 20, Legoland will celebrate its birthday by giving one special park-goer, who is also celebrating his or her birthday, the chance to open the park for the day. The first 1,000 kids in the park will also get free child-size minifigure hands and get to attend a birthday-themed park opening ceremony.At the center of the party will stand a Lego birthday cake consisting of more than 51,000 Lego bricks, showcasing the attractions added to the park since it opened in 1999.The festivities continue all year long, with special birthday desserts, pop badges, and more for park guests. (KGTV) – The Legoland Hotel in Carlsbad is set to reopen before the theme park.Legoland California officials said the hotel, located on the same grounds as the Legoland theme park, will reopen to the public on Friday, July 17.With the reopening of the hotel, officials confirmed there will be numerous health and safety modifications in place such as social distancing practices and enhanced cleaning regimes.Legoland Hotel will operate in a reduced capacity, take cashless payments, and have a face coverings requirement for all guests three years of age and over. Hotel staff will also be required to don face coverings.Officials said those interested in staying at the hotel should book reservations online.The announcement of the hotel's reopening comes a week after officials said the Legoland theme park, which was shut down in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, would not reopen prior to Aug. 1.A reopening date for the theme park has not yet been determined. 992

Those who don't have the cash on hand say they'd have to cover it by borrowing or selling something.The bright side? That's an improvement from half of adults being unable to cover such an expense in 2013. The number has been ticking down each year since.Overall, the financial situation of American households has improved during the past five years, according to the Economic Well-Being of U.S. Households report. It shows that in 2017, 74% of adults reported feeling at least "okay" financially, an increase of 10 percentage points from the first survey four years earlier."This year's survey finds that rising levels of employment are translating into improved financial conditions for many but not all Americans," Federal Reserve Board Governor Lael Brainard said in a press release, "with one-third now reporting they are living comfortably and another 40% reporting they are doing okay financially."Still, many are struggling. Notable differences remain across race, ethnicity, education levels and geography. The report shows hardship continues for people working to repay college loans, cover emergency expenses and manage retirement savings.For the first time the report also looked at the opioid epidemic, reporting that one out of five adults personally knows someone with an addiction to painkillers. Exposure does not vary much by education level or by local economic conditions.The study was drawn from the Board's fifth annual Survey of Household Economics and Decisionmaking, which looks at the economic health of Americans. The survey of 12,000 people examined their income, employment, unexpected expenses, banking and credit, housing, education, and retirement planning in November and December 2017.While showing that Americans' financial lives are moving in a positive direction, the report does raise some concerns about their most basic levels of financial stability: emergency funds and retirement."The finding that four-in-ten adults couldn't cover an unexpected 0 expense without selling something or borrowing money is troubling," said Greg McBride, chief financial analyst at Bankrate.com. "Nothing is more fundamental to achieving financial stability than having savings that can be drawn upon when the unexpected occurs."McBride suggests setting up automatic direct deposits from a paycheck to a savings account that can build some much-needed financial cushion.He's also concerned about another finding in the report: fewer than 40% of adults think their retirement savings are on track."The burden is on us as individuals to save for our retirement," he says. CARDIFF (KGTV) -- With just a little bit of planning, Sharon Belknap begins a free-hand sand mandala that will offer its message, briefly, to all who pass by on the bridge at Cardiff State Beach where the San Elijo lagoon meets the ocean.Watching her work is like watching a dance.The graphic designer and illustrator draws shapes using a small, inexpensive rake. She brings extras because often passersby find inspiration and ask to join her, a collaboration she welcomes.The connections she has made through her sand art, she says have added meaning to her creations.People also send her their photos of her artwork, asking to use them in their holiday cards.Each mandala has an inscription, such as: "You Are Loved," or "Only Love."One that resonated particularly was "Grateful for ____.""People were shouting their words from the bridge," says Belknap.Sometimes friends join her.Heather Nelson is a regular, and a longtime friend. The day we shot the story, Kari Prevost was joining for her first collaboration with Sharon."The sounds of the ocean, the beauty of the water," she says, "it's restorative. It rekindles a playfulness that's innate."Expressed on a canvas that will be washed away by the waves; the impermanence, Belknap says, is freeing and healing.Her son Chris Thompson, a 28 year-old Valley Center firefighter, died in an early morning crash on his motorcycle this 4th of July."I like to say he ascended," she says.
