BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee hosted a symposium here Saturday to solicit advice and suggestions from outside the Party on its document concerning strengthening and improving Party building.     Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, briefed the participants on how the document of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee was weighed and finally formed. He asked them to freely voice their opinions on revising the document.     Chairmen of the central committees of eight non-communist parties and personages without party affiliation like Health Minister Chen Zhu offered their suggestions on issues including strengthening the intra-Party democracy, fighting corruption and improving the leadership style.     "The suggestions are valuable and insightful," said Hu. "They are a reflection of the close cooperative relations between the CPC and the non-communist parties."     "We will study them and try to learn from them," he said.     Hu said that being a ruling party in a country with a population of more than 1.3 billion, the CPC is shouldering an arduous task. The CPC will stick to the principle that the Party exercises self-discipline and is strict with its members. It will strengthen Party building and improve its art of leadership and governance.     Hu stressed that the CPC will work hard to enhance its abilities of resisting corruption, guarding against degeneration and warding off risks.     Members of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau Jia Qinglin, Xi Jinping and He Guoqiang also attended the symposium.     The Fourth Plenary Session of the 17th CPC Central Committee, which was concluded Friday, endorsed the decision of the CPC Central Committee on major issues on strengthening and improving Party building under the new circumstances.     A communique issued upon the closing of the four-day plenum vowed to "expand intra-Party democracy to develop people's democracy" and resolutely fight corruption." It also acknowledged that quite a few problems existed inside the Party that ran counter to new circumstances and to the Party's nature.

BEIJING, Oct.17 (Xinhua) -- China's civil aviation industry made profits of 9.1 billion yuan (about 1.33 billions U.S. dollars) in the first nine months of 2009, despite the punch by the financial crisis on the world's civil aviation industry, said the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) on Saturday.     Domestic air passenger traffic volume grew by 23.6 percent from a year earlier in first nine months of this year.     Performance of small airports, those that handle less than 1 million passengers annually, were most inspiring, said Li Jiaxiang, director with the CAAC, at the 2009 China International General Aviation Convention held in northwest China's Shaanxi Province on Saturday.     Li said that passenger volume of small airports grew 26.7 percent year on year to 14.87 million in the first half.     He contributed the vibrant performance of small airports and regional air routes to the more balanced economic development of China's different regions in recent years, which was the result of the country's strategies to develop the relatively poor western and central regions and to revive the old industrial base in northeastern regions.     Besides, the fact that Chinese people are becoming richer and CAAC's policies carried out last year to subsidize small and medium-sized airports and regional air routes also helped the passenger volume rise of small airports, said Li.     By the end of 2008, China had 116 small airports, accounting for 73 percent of the total number of the country's airports.

XI'AN, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Serbian President Boris Tadic on Saturday arrived in the ancient capital Xi'an in northwest China, continuing his week-long visit to the country.     Tadic visited some well-known historic sites in the city, including Emperor Qin Shihuang's Mausoleum and the Terra-cotta Warriors.     The president hailed "Terra-cotta Warriors" as unique, saying those warriors demonstrated Chinese' delicate craftsmanship dating back more than 2000 years.     "They are so well-preserved, thus Serbia should work with China on the protection of cultural relics," Tadic said. Serbian President Boris Tadic visits the Museum of Terracotta Horses and Armored Warriors of the First Emperor of the Qin Dynastry in Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, Aug. 22, 2009    Zhao Zhengyong, deputy governor of Shaanxi Province, of which Xi'an is the capital, met with Tadic on Saturday.     Tadic said his country will cooperate with Shaanxi as the province boasts abundant resources in petroleum, coal and culture.     Tadic made the week-long visit as a guest of his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao. BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- China's securities authority Thursday began reviewing applications of the the first seven IPOs for listing on the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM), a Nasdaq-style market in China.     The seven enterprises covered fields of software, medical equipment and medicines. They planned to raise 2.27 billion yuan (332.65 million U.S. dollars).     The review meeting was for the first time opened to journalists, who were allowed to watch the meeting for about ten minutes.     The second batch of IPOs will be reviewed Friday and they plan to raise 1.13 billion yuan (165.30 million U.S. dollars), according to a report on the website of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC).     IPO review meetings would be concentrated on these days, a CSRC official, who declined to be named, told Xinhua Monday.     "IPO applications sent to the regulator were concentrated. The regulator had to take into consideration forming a block and guard against speculation that might push up IPO stocks prices," the official said.     The CSRC started to accept applications of the GEM on July 26 and had received 155 applications for IPOs on the GEM as of Sept. 10. The CSRC has formally agreed to handle 149 enterprises' applications that aim to raise 33.61 billion yuan (4.92 billion U.S. dollars).

SHANGHAI, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Baosteel Group, China's largest steel maker, said Friday it has agreed to pay 285.6 million Australian dollars (240.7 million U.S. dollars) for a 15-percent stake in Australian miner Aquila Resources.     Baosteel will buy up to 43.95 million shares in Aquila at 6.5 Australian dollars a share.     The deal, which will make Baosteel the second-biggest shareholder in Aquila, is still to get approval from Australian and Chinese regulators.     The company executives valued the growth potential of Aquila's assets in the deal that is another major step in its overseas expansion, said a statement on Baosteel's website.     Baosteel established a joint venture with iron ore giant Rio Tinto in 2001 and Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) in 2002 to secure iron ore imports.     In a press release, Aquila said the deal was "an important transaction in Baosteel's strategy to secure long-term supply of critical steel raw materials."     The strategic cooperation will "fast-track the development of Aquila's key steel raw materials projects including iron ore, coal, and manganese," said the statement.     Baosteel would possibly make further direct investment into a number of its projects and help it get low-cost financing from China for most of its major projects, including the strategic West Pilbara Iron Ore Project, said the Aquila statement.     It added that the state-owned Chinese steel mill had agreed not to hold more than 19.99 percent of Aquila before August 2010.     Shares in Aquila surged 9.16 percent, or 60 Australian cents, to 7.15 Australian dollars Friday.
