(KGTV) - Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who abandoned a vehicle after striking and killing a cyclist Saturday in Escondido.The cyclist was identified Monday as Kevin Lentz of Vista, a married father of a 1-year-old son, according to Escondido Police Lt. Scott Walters and friends of Lentz.The 36-year-old Lentz was cycling with a group on La Honda Road north of El Norte Parkway when he was hit head-on Saturday around noon, according to the Escondido Police Department.RELATED: Bicyclist killed in Escondido hit-and-run crash“The driver of the car was on the wrong side of the road, traveling at high speed on a blind curve when he hit Kevin head-on, killing him instantly,” wrote Devin Rickey on a GoFundMe page set up for Lentz’ family.Officers found the dark Toyota sedan abandoned a half-mile away, in the 600 block of Aster Street. The vehicle had significant damage to the windshield and roof.Lentz was an avid cyclist who raced competitively for the TASCO MTB mountain bike team before scaling back his riding to spend more time with family, friends said. "She seems to be falling a lot."So they took her to a free public vision screening put on by For Eye Care Foundation on Florida's east coast."She was screened by Dr. Cano and he gave my mom a printout and said that there were some red flags," Miller said.Turns out, she's nearsighted in one eye but farsighted in the other.It's called amblyopia, or lazy eye. It's a condition that can lead to permanent damage if not caught early."If we can screen these children before their eyes mature they can be treated and prevent visual loss," said Dr. Cano.That's why Dr. Cano says you shouldn't put off a visit to the eye doctor because of the pandemic. There are tools available to keep kids safe."One of the nice devices that we use, which I happen to have with me, is this device," Cano said. ESCONDIDO (CNS) - Two men were stabbed, one fatally, in a gang-related attack at a mobile home park in Escondido and the suspects were at large Saturday morning.The stabbing occurred at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of West 15th Avenue near the Centre City Parkway when two men in a black Toyota sedan arrived at the location and began arguing with the victims. At one point in the argument, one of the suspects pulled out a knife and stabbed both victims, according to Lt. Chris Lick of the Escondido Police Department.The victims, ages 30 and 25, were rushed to a hospital where the older man died and the younger man was listed in stable condition, Lick said.The suspects left the area in an unknown direction. ENSENADA, Mexico (KGTV) — A San Diego dirt bike racer is recovering tonight in Mexico after a bizarre mid-race crash with a mystery SUV.On Saturday morning, about 60 miles southeast of Ensenada, 29-year-old Josear Carrasco was racing a course he knew well. On this day, he would not finish."Just devastated. It's really hard. He's my everything, so it's hard to see him like this," said his wife, Kylie.Kylie was in a truck along the course when she got the news. Josear was in second place, nearly done with his 100-mile stretch and about to turn his bike over to a teammate. That's when he says he collided with an SUV that had driven onto the course, headed toward him. "He tried to veer off to the right ... the car veered off in same direction. Then, a head-on collision. He doesn't remember anything after that," said Kylie.Josear was discovered by spectators and a teammate, with car parts scattered nearby."Something exploded. When they found him, his gear was just melted off," said Kylie.Josear suffered second-degree burns up and down the left side of his body and broken bones in his arms, legs, shoulder and shin. He also suffered a ruptured intestine, but he was alive."Once I saw him breathing, my heart dropped ... because that's all that matters," said Kylie.Josear has already undergone several surgeries at a hospital in Ensenada. His family trying to raise money for a medical transport back to San Diego, while Mexican authorities hunt for the hit-and-run driver.
