Toys "R" Us is on its way out, but KB Toys is set to pop back up.Strategic Marks, a company that buys and revitalizes defunct brands, owns the KB name and plans to open 1,000 pop-up KB Toys stores for Black Friday and the holiday shopping season."My assumption is that there's about half a billion dollars worth of toys that have been produced for Toys "R" Us with no place to go," said Strategic Marks president Ellia Kassoff, in a phone interview with CNNMoney. "That's a big, big void that we're hoping to fill up."Toys "R" Us, which filed for bankruptcy last year, announced last week that it expects to close all of its 735 stores in the US. Those closures will put 31,000 people out of work and hurt toy manufacturers that depended on the national retailer for distribution.Kassoff said he's been in contact with Hasbro Inc. and Mattel, Inc. and up to 200 smaller toy suppliers who are looking for new brick and mortar retailers. He said he plans to take advantage of a glut of toy manufacturers that have inventory but no place to sell it.To get a quick retail footprint, Kassoff said he's working with companies that specialize in holiday and pop-up retail, like Spencer Spirit Holdings Inc., Go! Retail Group, and Party City Holdco Inc."We're talking to companies that know how to do it, they have a methodology, they're used to rolling out stuff real quickly," he said.After the holiday shopping season ends, Kassoff will decide which of the pop-up stores will become permanent, based on their performance and whether he can negotiate a lease.Strategic Marks bought the KB Toys brand from Bain Capital in 2016. (AP) — Authorities say a man has been arrested in Southern California after deputies found about 800 pounds of stolen lemons inside his car.Riverside County sheriff's officials say 69-year-old Dionicio Fierros was arrested Friday on suspicion of theft of agricultural products.Deputies were investigating recent farm thefts when they stopped Fierros' car in Thermal on Friday morning.Inside his car, deputies say they found several large bags of freshly picked lemons they believe were stolen from a nearby farm.A telephone number for Fierros could not be located in public records and it wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney who could comment on the allegations. 697

(KGTV) -- After gunning down a group of workers standing at the door at Borderline Bar & Grill country music bar, Ian David Long paused a moment to post a chilling message on social media before resuming his killing spree."It's too bad I won't get to see all the illogical and pathetic reasons people will put in my mouth as to why I did it. Remember the toilet paper fiasco?But as we hear talk about another wave of coronavirus infections, some are wondering if grocery supplies will take another hit.We went to experts who track grocery data. They say what we saw earlier this year was historic.“Those mid-March weeks were the largest we've seen in the history of grocery shopping. I don't expect to ever see big waves like that again,” said Anne-Marie Roerink, President of 210 Analytics.People first stocked up on just cleaning items and then they started stocking up on all types of items, including pantry foods and that precious commodity – toilet paper.Roerink says that while it is possible people will stockpile again later this year, toilet paper may not be on the list. Cleaning items may become hard to find again. The timing of all this really depends on the virus and how cases evolve.“Should it come down to where the virus is big enough of a wave or we might go back down to a shelter in place, or where people feel more safe at home than they do out and about, I can see where our grocery spending will go back up,” said Roerink.Earlier this year, holidays like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day actually contributed to the clearing of grocery shelves. They’re typically holidays where we go out to eat, but that wasn't really an option in most places. So, people had to improvise.“All of a sudden, retail had to absorb all those dollars to take care of mom and cook her a fun brunch or dinner, so we had an enormous peak again for Mother's Day and Father's Day,” said Roerink.That means holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas could change how things work out at the grocery store as well.Generally, supply and demand has started to normalize, but grocery sales are still about 10% higher than what they normally are.
