SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Family members of a DUI crash victim shared emotional stories about their loss at the driver’s sentencing hearing Friday. Lauren Freeman cried as statements were made about the Feb. 2018 crash in Ocean Beach. Prosecutors said Freeman drove the wrong way on a transition ramp between I-5 and I-8, crashing into Justin Callahan’s car. “I'm Justin's father, he is buried next to his sister who died in 2005. So I think that there's a rule somewhere that children aren't supposed to die before the parents,” said Callahan’s father. Callahan was headed home to Ocean Beach from his job in Chula Vista when he died. She also said she hopes Callahan’s family can one day find it in their hearts to forgive her. Freeman pleaded guilty to several charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. She was originally charged with murder but that was dropped during a plea deal. As part of her agreement, Freeman will serve 11 years, eight months in prison. 1176

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For one local woman, President Trump's proposal for the death penalty for some drug dealers is sparking an emotional, internal debate."My daughter's character was so gracious.  She was beautiful inside and out," said Eva Faure.Her daughter, Eva Anderson was a trainer and aspiring journalist.  Six years ago, Anderson's life was cut short at the age of 23.  She was Faure's only child."The pain ... is an indescribable," said Faure.Faure says her daughter's opiate habit started when she tried her boyfriend's Oxycontin pills.  She says within 3 months, Eva was an addict. Around that time, Faure confronted Eva after she got sick, lost weight and her personality changed.  Eva revealed her addiction and agreed to enter rehab.  Faure says after nearly 2 years of being sober -- Eva's landlord found her dead from a methadone overdose in her La Jolla apartment.  While Faure still has questions about how the methadone got into her daughter, there's no questioning how she feels about those who traffic large amounts of opioids.     1114

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- First responders late Sunday morning rescued a man from sunset cliffs they say was intoxicated and naked. San Diego Fire-Rescue was called to No Surf Beach near Hill Street just before 11 to perform the rescue. According to the department, the man was exploring down by the water when waves picked up. RELATED: King tide rolls into San Diego coastlineCrews say the man clung to the rocks until help arrived.San Diego police say the man was intoxicated and was taken in for a psychiatric hold. Onlookers could be heard cheering as the man was lifted to safety atop the cliffs. Onlookers cheer as first responders rescue a naked man from Sunset Cliffs.
