SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diegans now have even more problems they can report by the touch of a button.The city is continuing to add categories to its "Get it Done" smartphone app, which launched in 2016. The app originally allowed San Diegans to report stormwater and street issues, but currently has nine categories, including code enforcement, graffiti, and even passport appointments.The city says it gets 10,000 reports per month on the app.RELATED: San Diego battles illegally painted red curbsIn August, the city added features that allow people to report cars parked longer than 72 hours, illegal dumping, and HAZMAT related issues. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police are investigating the discovery of a man's body in the water off Mission Beach.Lifeguards discovered the body about two and a half miles off the shoreline about 11 a.m., officials said. They had been drawn to the area by a fisherman who saw a flock of seagulls in the water and went to investigate.When they found the body, the man was only wearing only board shorts and was found with a chain around his waist.San Diego Police Homicide Lt. Anthony Dupree described the chain as a "half-inch linked chain. It almost looks like someone may wear it as a belt."Lt. Dupree also said there were no obvious signs of trauma or evidence that the body had been weighed down with anything, but the chain was concerning.The man's identity was not immediately released. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County reported a record new 1,802 coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the region's total to 78,159 cases thus far.The new cases resulted in an 8% positive rate out of 21,671 reported tests for the county's daily tally. No new deaths were reported on Friday, as the death toll sits at 996.The new case totals come as public and federal health officials urge the public to keep gatherings limited and small this Thanksgiving and not to travel.Hospitalizations in the county remained at 580 on Friday, while ICU cases rose slightly from 166 to 173 — both of which have nearly doubled since a month earlier, according to the county's data.There were 82 community outbreaks in San Diego County as of Friday. A community outbreak is defined as three or more COVID-19 cases in a setting and in people of different households over the past 14 days. 880

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego City Attorney Mara W. Elliott has heard complaints from neighbors and has filed a civil enforcement action to shut down a short-term vacation rental property in La Jolla that has been dubbed a "COVID party mansion."The complaint alleges that defendants are maintaining a public nuisance and engaging in unfair competition, including false advertising at the La Jolla Farms rental property located at 9660 Black Gold Rd. According to city officials, the rental property continues to operate in violation of state and county COVID-19 public health orders.According to a press release, Elliott is seeking civil penalties and a permanent injunction against property owners Mousa Hussain Mushkor and Zahra Ali Kasim, property manager Nital Meshkoor, and Steven S. Barbarich, who leased the property from Mushkor and subleased it as a short-term rental.City officials said the oceanfront mansion has been the subject of at least 30 calls to the San Diego Police Department. Officers have spent more than 173 hours at the property to investigate nuisance activity. Most of the incidents involved raucous parties, some of which had up to 300 attendees.Elliott said about a dozen of the party complaints came during the COVID-19 pandemic, while public health orders prohibited large gatherings.According to the press release, concerns about the property were brought to the City Attorney’s Office by San Diego police and by neighbors who reported that the situation was "becoming more pronounced as the COVID-19 pandemic progressed." “Shutting down dangerous party houses protects the public health by preventing COVID super-spreader events and other illegal behavior,” Elliott said. “It’s unfortunate that San Diego does not have short term rental regulations in place. Relief for this neighborhood would have come much sooner. Instead we must rely on time-intensive prosecutions at significant taxpayer expense.”According to the press release, gunfire was reported to police during a party in May of 2019. Officers arrived and found a large party in progress. Partygoers questioned by police admitted gunshots were fired during a fight that had occurred earlier. Police found shell casings outside the property and a neighbor found an additional casing the next day and turned it over to police. The City Attorney's Office assembled evidence from investigations by SDPD, the Code Enforcement Division of the City’s Development Services Department, the County Health & Human Services Department, and the City Fire Marshal.
