SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A computer virus prevented most of the San Diego Union-Tribune's readership from waking up with a paper Saturday morning.The U-T's Editor in Chief Jeff Light said in a statement online the virus affected the production of the U-T and the LA Times, and the Southern California editions of the Wall Street Journal, and New York Times through Los Angeles' Olympic Printing Plant. Light wrote that systems still used through the paper's former owner, Tribune Publishing, had been compromised by the virus Thursday night and spread to critical systems by Friday.The virus also affected the paper's digital replica online. The U-T said it plans to deliver the Saturday edition with Sunday's edition to print subscribers."I apologize to our customers for this inconvenience. Thank you for your patience and support. We are doing everything we can to restore full service and to continue to make our journalism available to you both in print and digitally," Light's statement read.10News received multiple calls from viewers who did not receive the Saturday edition of the paper.It wasn't immediately clear if Sunday deliveries would be affected as well, though Light said updates would be provided as more information becomes available. 1256

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A class-action lawsuit against the University of San Diego wants the school to refund students some tuition fees following the move to virtual learning.The lawsuit, filed by two students, claims the college owes students some of their tuition and fees back due to the switch to virtual learning.The suit says that when the school switched to virtual learning in Spring 2020, students were still charged full tuition even though "USD could no longer provide the promised hours of instruction." The lawsuit claimed that USD also increased its tuition on top of that."Similarly, students paid fees for services and access to facilities and equipment over the full semester. Though USD provided these services and facility/equipment access for only part of the semester, and could not provide them for the full semester, USD demanded that students pay fees for the entire semester," lawsuit documents state.A spokesperson for USD told ABC 10News they have not been notified of or served with the lawsuit.The lawsuit is seeking a "prorated portion of the tuition, fees and other related costs, proportionate to the diminished value of online classes and the amount of time in the Spring 2020 and following semesters when USD ceased in-person classes, campus services and access to campus facilities, continuing through to such time as USD reinstates in-person classes" for the two students who filed the lawsuit and "all others similarly situated." 1470

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A body washed ashore in Ocean Beach early Monday morning a few hours after a man was seen diving off the Ocean Beach Pier.At about 1 a.m., someone called 911 to report seeing a man jumping off the OB Pier into the ocean. A witness said the man was seen on his back being pulled out to sea.When authorities arrived, they found the man's belongings on the pier but could not locate him in the water. Lifeguards and Coast Guard personnel launched a search, but the man was nowhere to be found.Shortly after 4 a.m., authorities responded to the discovery of a body on the beach nearby. Authorities said it was too soon to determine if the body is that of the man who dove off the pier. 708

Florence Oliver has lived in San Diego her whole life."I was born at SD General at that time, but of course I don't remember it!" The family settled down in Carlsbad, and for Florence, family is everything. For the last century, her family hung on to another memory. A brass bell from the Carlsbad School which rung daily for class.In 1922, Florence's uncles stole stole the bell to pull off a prank on her mother's wedding night. "They hung it, in those days you had those wire springs on bed to hold mattresses, they hung it underneath, no one knew… so the bell really rang loud!"Rather than return the bell, it stayed in the family - first handed down to Florence's oldest brother, and then the next brother, and eventually to her."What does it mean to me, it's just a piece of our life, and it's gone through our family, it's like it's related."One day, Florence had a conversation with her niece. "She said Dad used to go in the garage and she told me that bell needs to go home, that would make him very proud."So last month, Florence made good on her promise. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - With just a few days left of Daylight Saving Time, bicycle riders can go to the Central Library today to pick up lights, courtesy of the San Diego County Bike Coalition.Standard Time, when we move the clock back one hour, arrives Sunday morning, meaning that nightfall will arrive 60 minutes earlier.The Bike Coalition will hand out front and rear lights from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the library in the East Village at 330 Park Blvd.Coalition members will also encourage safe, nighttime commuting with safety information about riding in the dark.State law requires that people riding their bikes at night have functioning front and rear lights, according to the coalition. 699
