SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A shark was seen off the San Clemente Pier Monday morning, prompting lifeguards to close a two-mile stretch of beach.Several witnesses saw the shark about 9 a.m.  It was estimated at nine feet long, lifeguards said. They did not know what type of shark it was.Few people were in the water because of cold temperatures and minimal surf, said officials. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Solana Beach man is back in San Diego still recovering from a spinal cord injury that happened halfway around the world in Bali.Anthony Galvan-Schaible's journey happened during the pandemic and even though he's back home, there are months of intensive rehab ahead.Schaible went to Bali in February with plans to stay until April. Then the pandemic started and he had to stay.In late July, Schaible was in a motorcycle accident that left him with a spinal cord injury. He required emergency surgery halfway around the world.RELATED: Local man's trip to Bali takes unexpected turn after crashHis mom flying to be by his side."Pretty much just got stronger and we had to figure out how to fly business class," Schaible said before his return.Two weeks ago, Schaible made it back home, transferred to UCSD La Jolla after three flights and 36 hours of travel with doctors on board."Definitely noticing myself get a little stronger as the days go by but next is an acute rehab facility," said Schaible.In the coming days, Schaible will move to Loma Linda University inpatient rehab. Doctors haven't ruled out the possibility of regaining movement and one day walking again — something Schaible plans to work towards one day at a time."At this point, it's just pretty positive and just looking forward to moving more and wiggling a little bit more and hopefully getting these legs going would be my goal," Schaible says.The family still posted a GoFundMe to help with medical expenses. 1508

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A young woman was hit by an egg while walking to her car in Carmel Valley and could lose sight in her left eye permanently due to the prank, according to what her doctor told her.Meghan Campbell, 25, was visiting friends on Sunday the 19th, at their home near Torrey Pines High School. Around 9:45 p.m. she was walking ahead of her friends to her car when a dark SUV drove by and someone inside hurled an egg at her."It was freaking terrifying," she said Wednesday, still shaken by the incident. "Soon as it hit me I kneeled down to figure out what was going on." Her thoughts were racing, "I can't see, there's something gooey on my face right now."It can sound like a funny prank, and Campbell chooses to find the humor in it now, but what doctors told her at the hospital was life-altering.She said doctors told her that her left cornea was scratched and orbital bones were fractured."I think the most scary thing for me was my vision went out... and I couldn't start seeing light or anything until the next day," Campbell said.She saw an Ophthalmologist Tuesday and she said he told her it will take six weeks to find out if her vision will come back. He said there are no options for surgery or medication because of the level of trauma to her eye. Her left pupil has remained dilated more than a week after the incident.She said she's still having trouble with light sensitivity, depth perception, and overall vision. "Someone with 20/20 vision can stand 200 feet away from something and see it clear, I have to stand 20 feet away to see the same thing," she said.She was visiting her friends from Orange County when the incident happened. Wednesday she was at the airport waiting for a flight back to Kentucky where she's studying to become an ER doctor. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A vandal left a trail of flattened car tires and angry drivers across a mile-long stretch of Pacific Beach on Monday."Frustrated is the best word I can use," said Jennifer Whetstone. Whetstone discovered a flat tire on her Jeep Wranger near her home on Felspar Street just after noon. Replacing the slashed tire will cost her more 0.Police actually contacted her and her husband on the phone to let them know about the slashing, because officers were already in the area. According to Whetstone, police told her the same vandal had just slashed the tires of six vehicles in a Bank of America parking lot.It all happened in broad daylight, off busy streets. The description of the vandal was provided by a witness to police."He saw the whole thing, heard the pop and then saw a guy on a mountain bike - tall, skinny and wearing a hat - pedal off," said Whetstone.The witness saw the man bike down the street in a hurry.
