SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A letter from Rep. Duncan Hunter’s attorney to the United States Deputy Attorney General discussed possible evidence of extramarital infidelity and excessive drinking.On August 6, Hunter attorney Gregory A. Vega wrote to Rod Rosenstein at the Department of Justice requesting the postponement of this week's campaign fund misuse indictment, and addressed “an overly aggressive prosecution intent on criminalizing content that is civil in nature”.“While there may be evidence of infidelity, irresponsibility, or alcohol dependence, once properly understood, the underlying facts do not equate to criminal activity; these allegations are, however, intended to embarrass and humiliate the Congressman shortly before a crucial election, and also to alienate him from his wife, the only other person under investigation and his intended co-defendant,” wrote Vega.Prosecutors allege the Hunters used more than 0,000 in campaign funds to support a lavish lifestyle and reported the purchases as campaign expenses.The affidavit detailed money spent on hotel rooms for different individuals and various social outings, including one involving 30 shots of tequila. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A local high school teacher is using her classroom to foster conversations about social justice. In light of recent events, the community has stepped in to make sure the talks continue.Racism, diversity, and inclusion are just some of the words that sit on Jennifer Koller's vocabulary wall inside of her Steele Canyon High School classroom. Three years ago, she decided a class with those topics were needed for her students."The course was designed after years of watching the kids disconnect from the curriculum that didn't feel relevant to them," says Koller.With materials found at Teaching Tolerance, an aid for educators, it allowed her to shape the Literature and Social Justice course.It starts with identity, it moves to diversity, has justice, and ends with action," says Koller. "The last unit is when students really get to pick their own social justice issue and educate their classmates on something that's near and dear to their hearts."Recent Steele Canyon graduate, Tia Saunders, took Ms. Koller's course. She says it allowed students to have tough conversations, like race, with each other."It gave us all a chance to really just see everybody's side and truly pick whatever you want to do and understand why everybody thinks the way that they do," says Saunders.Koller says after seeing the recent events around San Diego and the country, following the death of George Floyd, she reached out to the community for help getting new anti-racism books for the class. The books were fully funded in less than two days."I feel my step into this next is to foster more intense and courageous conversations about race," says Koller. "I just wanted to start the new school year with ultimately the most relevant and interesting materials for the kids in my class."Students taking the Literature and Social Justice course will receive high school credit and credit towards admission to CSU and University of California schools. 1964

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A heartbroken dog owner is demanding answers from a motel in Mission Valley.Mary Prevost left her 4-year-old German Shepherd alone her room Saturday night when she went to dinner then found out later it had been hit and killed on Interstate 8.“I opened my door and my dog wasn’t there,” said Prevost, “I ran down to the front desk and said my dog wasn’t there and the woman said around 8:30 they had seen a dog running around in the parking lot.”Prevost says the motel staff said they tried calling her but they had dialed the wrong number.The dog owner then drove around Mission Valley as Saturday night turned into Sunday morning — then animal control rang.“She apologized and said that a dog that fit my description with a red collar had been hit on the highway and she was on the side of the road,” said Prevost through tears.“I planned to take her to Coronado beach the next day and instead I picked her up dead on the highway,” said PrevostPrevost had 4-year-old Valkyrie cremated on Sunday, but now she is grappling with Motel 6 management about how this happened.Prevost says the motel's risk managers told her the dog likely opened up the door on its own.“If they just called me or animal control or the police,” said Prevost, ”I could have gotten her because she was alive.”She says the hotel has video of the dog wandering the motel and the parking lot, but they won’t let her see it.Motel 6 has denied multiple requests by 10News for comment.Prevost says it just doesn’t seem fair to blame the dog.“The problem is even if she got the door open,” said Prevost, “they just let her go.” 1622

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new report out Thursday shows that the United States will gain 23 new million cities within the next year, and San Diego didn't shy away from the list. According to Zillow, a million city is defined as a city with a median home value of million or more.It’s no surprise that San Diego has five such cities. Included in the list is Del Mar, Rancho Santa Fe, Coronado, Solana Beach and Encinitas.One of those cities, Encinitas, became a million city within the last year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego County leader is asking the state to look into what she calls the disproportionate placement of sexually violent predators in rural East County. In a letter, Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Dianne Jacob asked Attorney General Xavier Becerra to investigate the placements. Jacob says nine out of the 12 predators, dubbed the "dirty dozen" by Jacob, released in the San Diego region have been housed in the communities of Campo, Boulevard and Jacumba Hot Springs. RELATED: Placement hearing to be held for 'bolder than most' rapist“Rural East County should not be treated as a convenient dumping ground for SVPs,” said Jacob. “In their attempt to quietly house these monsters in our county, state officials are exploiting small, rural communities that often lack the resources and clout to challenge these placements.”The letter comes as a judge gets ready to consider a state proposal to put Alan Earl James, another sexually violent predator, in Jacumba Hot Springs.
