SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The San Diego County migrant shelter is stepping up protocols Friday after officials announced the number of cases of migrants with flu-like symptoms doubled in 24 hours.A plane full of migrants landed at Lindbergh Field Friday around 1:15 p.m. The concern Friday is the flight may have more sick migrants.Border Patrol officials stated migrants are given a health screening in Texas before they travel to San Diego, and are screened again once they land.County Health officials say when they screened 47 migrants at their downtown shelter, they found 13 migrants with flu-like symptoms. A total of 29 migrants have been diagnosed with the flu since May 19, officials say. There they get another health screening and starting Thursday, everyone gets a mask and Tamiflu pill as a precaution to keep the sickness from spreading.As of Friday, extra nurses are coming into the shelter to check on the group and ensure no one else has come down with the flu.Those who are diagnosed go with their families to a hotel that has individual air units, so they don't spread the virus. They are educated on why they should stay in the room and, if they leave, what precautions to take so they don't infect others.Migrants in the shelter can come and go as they wish.Border Patrol stated migrants who exhibit flu-like symptoms are not allowed to fly and instead are given medical treatment in Texas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The views from atop of the old light house at Point Loma are off limits to virtually everyone most of the year except two particular twin sisters.Kim Falhlen and Karen Scanlon are volunteers at Cabrillo National Monument.The 67-year-old sisters are tasked with cleaning the rare glass lenses at the top of the lighthouse among other duties for the open tower days held only 3 days a year.“It’s almost in a constant need of repair,” said Kim Fahlen, “the tower wasn’t built for today’s activity.”The sisters grew up in Ohio and say they plan on helping at the tower as long as the park rangers at Cabrillo will let them.“We’re good for a while,” said Karen Scanlon, “we’ll keep doing this until they make us take a desk job.” 756

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Three businesses were destroyed last weekend by an act of hate in Mission Hills.It happened at the 'Capello' and 'Beautiful You' salons Saturday morning. Leather chairs were slashed and destroyed. Appliances and flooring were completely flooded after the culprit left the sinks running all night. "They slashed all of the chairs, styling chairs, shampoo chairs, there was detergent everywhere, shampoo everywhere," said 'Beautiful You' manager, Shanell Cedeno.Even an architecture studio one floor down took a hit from the water that went seeping through the salon's ceiling, damaging blueprints and computers. Management thinks the culprit is a former employee of the salon. "Clearly it has to be someone who has a key," said Cedeno. "It's targeted and it was a hateful act someone who clearly dislikes what we're doing here."The damage is estimated at tens of thousands of dollars. "Karma will definitely take its place first before they find them, I'm sure," said Cedeno. "If it's not happening already, it's coming for them."An investigation is underway.
