On April 7, 1933, the Cullen-Harrison Act, signed by President Franklin Roosevelt, went into effect. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents can learn about the city's most iconic buildings this weekend during an open house of nearly 100 sites.Open House San Diego, hosted by the San Diego Architectural Foundation, is offering a free look into sites including buildings downtown, in Barrio Logan, Balboa Park, La Jolla, and elsewhere in the county March 23 and 24. Guests get designer-led tours of hidden gems and treasures across San Diego and can participate in a photo contest to win prizes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego may be seeing more rain than usual this winter, but a panel of scientists recently hypothesized that the storm of all storms could cause billions in damage, destroying vital infrastructure statewide. SPECIAL REPORT: Complete coverage of California's winter stormsA report on "the big one" of all storms, called ARkstorm, has the potential to destroy water supplies, damage the state's power grids and topple agriculture, according to the United States Geological Survey report. The storm would virtually leave California in the dark for some time. TelecommunicationsAfter the storm passes, telecommunications would be a top priority because, according to the report, rebuilding and supplying the state with other lifelines such as its water supply depend on cellular service. The USGS report estimates that a massive storm such as ARkstorm could cost service providers an estimated 0 million. While we may enjoy the sparkle and booms, your pets may run for their lives.“You don’t want to have them outside where all those loud fireworks are going off,” said San Diego Humane Society spokeswoman Dariel Walker. The organization sees a sudden spike in stray animals around this time of year, she said.Just like on July 4th, many pets who are terrified of loud noises run off in a panic. Walker suggested that owners prevent that by creating a calming environment for animals. “You can even even play music or have the TV on or have some noise in the background to drown out that loud sound of the fireworks,” Walker said. Walker advised pet owners to be prepared with a microchip in case they do run away. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County officials say they are taking additional steps regarding employers linked to outbreaks.Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said the county will update its public health order to state "entities shall notify employees of an outbreak that occurred at a physical location where they work."Fletcher added that the county believes most businesses are acting responsibly and notifying employees.
