Americans have welcomed him into their living rooms since 1984, and for decades, the beloved host of Jeopardy became a daily staple in many people’s lives. This week, on the familiar set of the popular game show, Alex Trebek delivered somber news: he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. "Just like 50,000 others each year, this week I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer,” Trebek said in the video. “Now, normally the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working." The sad reality is Trebek is right. Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest types of the disease. “The 5-year survival rate is just 9 percent,” says Julie Fleshman with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. Fleshman says it’s also not an easy disease to diagnose early, because symptoms like back pain and stomach aches can be benign. Therefore, pancreatic cancer is often only diagnosed when it's reached stage 4, meaning it has spread to other parts of the body. But Fleshman says Trebek's video message may be a breath of fresh air for anyone battling the disease. "I think having hope and empowerment when diagnosed with a difficult disease like pancreatic cancer is extremely important, and Alex’s message yesterday was courageous and inspiring to all of us," she says.In his announcement, Trebek inserted a bit of his trademark humor, saying he was going to fight this because “truth told, I have to, because under the terms of my contract I have to host Jeopardy for three more years!"Trebek asked for prayers from his fans. A phone bill for more than 0,000. That’s what Dr. Rosa Galvan-Silva’s dental office received from AT&T for hundreds of international calls she said she never made.In 40-plus years of dentistry, about 30 at her office in South Holland, Illinois, Galvan-Silva still hasn’t seen it all.“Something is really wrong,” she said about receiving an ,224.32 bill from AT&T, the first of two monstrous phone bills. The bill said her office made more than 100 calls – some as long as two hours – to the United Kingdom in late July and early August.“Oh my goodness, somebody’s talking a lot to the UK, but it’s not us,” she said. “They’re having good conversations there.”Galvan-Silva said she called AT&T and the company came out to investigate, but couldn’t figure out the problem. She said the calls are still tying up her phone lines–with problems happening as recently as last week.“We’re hurting. You know, we’re losing business,” she said. The bill showed many of the calls happen hours before her office opens, but not all of them.“When we come in the office, all the lines are busy. We cannot receive any phone calls. We cannot make any phone calls,” she said. “My staff are all here, and I’m with them. So it’s no way somebody’s gonna be making those phone calls here without me knowing.”Instead of ,000, she paid her typical bill of about 0. She did the same thing after the next bill came, totaling 3,576.05.That bill showed three phone lines tied up at the same time on the morning of Aug. 19. Those calls cost hundreds of dollars each.It appears Dr. Galvan-Silva’s phone system was accessed by fraudsters who made the unauthorized calls. She got a letter from AT&T’s fraud resolution group on Oct. 22, offering a settlement agreement, asking her to pay the company just 1 plus fees and taxes. The letter didn’t say why she would pay that amount, and she said she shouldn’t owe a penny. After AT&T was contacted, the company agreed to wipe away the bogus international charges. But Dr. Galvan-Silva says no one has told her whether the issue is fixed.“It is frustrating, because we are trying to do whatever we can on our part. Our equipment has been checked, we made all the phone calls that we have to make, and still we don’t have any resolution,” Galvan-Silva said. 2313

A veteran educator says there's no shortage of moms and dads who are willing to bend or ignore school rules to do what they think is best for their child. Elementary school principal Gerry Brooks, of Lexington, Kentucky shared his opinion in a funny video about a serious topic — the recent college admissions scandal case in which actors Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin, among dozens of others, were charged. An administrator for 12 years and former teacher, Brooks said in an interview with CNN that no educators should be surprised by the scandal. Some parents will do things that disagree with policies in place to meet their personal needs. In the interview, Brooks said it has been his experience that parents will lie about why their children are late to school, drive around cones in student drop-off lanes, allow peanut butter to be brought into classrooms with allergic students and more. They will lie about larger issues such as their official home address to ensure their children get into schools with stronger ratings and athletic departments. He says it is a misunderstanding of what they think is best versus rules the schools put in place to provide the top safety and education. 1209

A news helicopter showed a tanker truck barreling into a crowd of protesters on a Minneapolis highway on Sunday. The protest marked the sixth straight day of unrest in Minneapolis following the death of George Floyd. Floyd died while in police custody on Monday after an officer held a knee against Floyd’s neck for nine minutes. The news helicopter showed dozens of protesters swarming the tanker, with several protesters jumping on the hood of the tanker. As the crowd swelled, police rushed in and sprayed the crowd. WCCO-TV reported that the tanker’s driver was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. 629
