SAN YSIDRO (CNS) - A 61-year-old man who ran into a street in San Ysidro, tripped and fell, was run over by an SUV and killed, authorities said this morning.The man exited a business in the 500 block of E. San Ysidro Boulevard at 2:05 p.m. Friday and as he reached the asphalt of the street, tripped and fell face first and was run over by a Cadillac Escalade pulling out of an adjacent parking lot, Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department said.The pedestrian, who was not identified, sustained fatal injuries, Heims said. 546

(KGTV) — A man was arrested after deputies say he fled the scene of a San Marcos crash and was stopped by passersby from leaving a second crash scene.San Diego Sheriff's deputies received a report of a beige Mercedes-Benz traveling at an unsafe speed on northbound Bennett Ave. before is ran off the road and collided with a concrete wall and then a residence at 600 Bennett Ave.The driver, a 26-year-old man, tried to flee the area, but was detained by passerbys until deputies arrived.While deputies were responding to that incident, SDSO says they received another call about a black, male suspect wearing camouflage clothing who had used a hatchet to smash the window of a vehicle at a Stater Brothers Grocery store at 1330 East Mission Rd. The man reportedly fled in a vehicle matching the description of the Mercedes-Benz and struck a gray Audi in the area of Knob Hill Rd., SDSO said. The driver of the Audi, a 61-year-old woman, was not injured. At the scene of the Bennett Ave. crash, paramedic treated the suspect at the scene and he was released. Based on evidence and interviews, deputies determined that the suspect was under the influence of prescription medication and heavily intoxicated at the time of the collision. The man was later arrested for driving under the influence, vandalism, and leaving the scene of an accident.SDSO's traffic division is investigating the crime. 1420

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (AP) — Gov. Gavin Newsom says California is turning the corner in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic. He cited a significantly lower number of confirmed new cases as California begins to clear backlogged cases caused by a technical error. Newsom says he's also encouraged by the downward trend in hospitalizations, which have fallen 21% in the past two weeks. Dr. Roger Lewis, director with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, says there’s been “a clear decline” in hospitalizations there.
