SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For the second time this week, Rancho Bernardo High School Principal Dave LeMaster met with concerned parents Thursday regarding Monday's school threat.Students arrived for class Monday morning to find violent threats spray-painted onto around 20 locations on campus. They all indicated a school shooting would happen that day at noon, with messages including "murder, blood, chaos" and "Florida was nothing".LeMaster told 10News police arrived quickly and within minutes determined there was no credible threat.An email notification went out to parents around 8:30am, after class had started, although LeMaster said if there was a danger, notification would have been sent out much sooner."We work with law enforcement to make sure the situation is secure and everyone is safe, and oftentimes, communication comes after that,” said Poway Unified School District spokesperson Christine Paik.Word of the incident quickly spread among students and their family members, which provides a challenge for administrators to inform parents."In the age of social media and texting, sometimes those unofficial communications will beat us to it ," Paik said. "But we have a responsibility to be accurate before we are able to put out those messages.”One parent told 10News she thinks the school should immediately notify parents of any threat to the school to give them the option of keeping their kids away from campus, but other parents worry that doing so could cause unnecessary panic and disruption.PUSD said it will work on improving the time it takes to send notifications to parents. San Diego (KGTV)- A music teacher at Grossmont High School reached out to the community after students were in need of guitars for the upcoming school year. The students will be practicing distance learning.Music teacher Jeremy Cook says the support has been overwhelming.“The response from the community has been absolutely amazing. I’ve met so many people. I’ve driven across the county picking up the guitars,” says Cooke.Cooke has received 117 guitars for students to practice.“Last year we had upwards of 120 guitar students total,” says Cooke. “There’s a hope to be able to offer guitars to students who aren’t able to take the class.”A couple of weeks ago, Cooke went to pick up a donation from a woman named Pam Anderson in Mission Hills.“I took it back to my car and popped it open. I was flabbergasted at what was inside. It was a 1969 Fender Telecaster.”These guitars range from ,000 to ,000. Cooke says he had to let Anderson know its value.“She said that she appreciated the honesty, and she still wanted to donate the guitar to the school,” says Cooke. “It was her husband’s who passed away. She said she knew he would want the same thing.”The guitar will be used for student performances and in the newly renovated music room when students are allowed back on campus.Cooke says he appreciates all of the donations. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two greater one-horned rhino calves took their first steps into their habitat for the first time this week at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.Next to their mothers Asha and Tanaya, the calves — born on March 25 and April 11, respectively — were finally able to explore their Asian Savanna habitat. Both pairs bonded while traversing the area, before intereacting with some of the other wildlife in the habitat.Tanaya and her female calf, which has not yet been named, enjoyed some wallowing in the mud, taking a cool dip, and meeting some of the blackbuck antelope and other animals in the 40-acre habitat.Asha and her male calf, named Arjun, explored hills and grassy areas. Arjun also met one of the habitat's Javan bantang (before quickly running back to mom's side."It’s great to see Asha and Tanaya introducing their calves to other wildlife for the first time," said Jillian King, senior wildlife care specialist, San Diego Zoo Safari Park. "Everything is new to the calves right now, so it will be interesting to watch them explore. We will keep a watchful eye on them, and look forward to them meeting more of the wildlife on the savanna soon."The greater one-horned rhino is listed as "vulnerable" on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species. This is primarily because of habitat loss, poaching, and illegal rhino horn trafficking.The species, once widespread in Southeast Asia, is now only found in India and Nepal.
