WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court is denying Congress access to secret grand jury testimony from special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation through the November election. The justices agreed Thursday to hear the Trump administration’s appeal of a lower court order for the material to be turned over to the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives. The high court’s action will keep the documents out of congressional hands at least until the case is resolved, which is not likely to happen before 2021. (CNS) - Police reached out to the public Friday for help in finding a 75-year-old Oceanside man who went missing from Vista.Edgar Cruz, an Oceanside resident, was last seen on Thursday at an undisclosed location in Vista, according to Oceanside police.Cruz is described as Latino, 5-foot-9 and weighing about 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a hat, a dark green shirt and blue jeans. VISTA (CNS) - An Oceanside physician who sexually assaulted five female patients referred by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs was sentenced Thursday to three years probation and was ordered to register as a sex offender and surrender his medical license.Dr. Edgar Manzanera, 39, could face three years in state prison if he violates the terms of his probation.Manzanera, who was contracted by the VA to review pension disability claims, pleaded guilty last September to one count of sexual exploitation by a physician for acts committed in 2015 and 2016, and admitted a special allegation of committing acts against multiple victims.RELATED: Former doctor pleads guilty to sexual misconductFour counts of sexual penetration with a foreign object were dismissed as part of the plea."The victims placed the defendant in a position of inherent trust and confidence and the defendant betrayed that trust," Deputy District Attorney Claudia Plascencia said when Manzanera pleaded guilty. WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Sunday fired the Navy’s top official over his handling of a disciplinary case involving a Navy SEAL.Esper asked for the resignation of Navy Secretary Richard Spencer and Spencer submitted it Sunday, said the chief spokesman for the Pentagon, Jonathan Hoffman.The firing was a dramatic turn in a long-running controversy involving Navy Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, whose case has been championed by President Donald Trump.Esper also directed that Gallagher be allowed to retire at the end of this month, and that a Navy disciplinary board that was scheduled to hear his case starting Dec. 2 be cancelled, Hoffman said.
