The coronavirus pandemic has been responsible for more police officer deaths in the line of duty than any other cause combined in 2020, according to a non-profit dedicated to fallen police officers.According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, 101 police officers across the country have died after contracting COVID-19 while on the job. Eighty-two other police officers have been killed by other causes in the line of duty in 2020.A second non-profit, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF), lists around 110 officer deaths linked to COVID-19.Both Officer Down and NLEOMF only count officers who were known to contract the virus while in the line of duty and review each case before adding it to their count. Officer Down says it is reviewing an additional 150 fatal cases of COVID-19 that may be added to the count in the future."By the end of this pandemic, it is very likely that COVID will surpass 9/11 as the single largest incident cause of death for law enforcement officers," Officer Down executive director Chris Cosgriff told The Washington Post.Officer Down reports that 73 police officers died on Sept. 11, 2001 in the terrorist attacks, and more than 300 have died of cancer linked to recovery efforts in the years since.According to NLEOMF, the state with the most police officer deaths linked to COVID-19 is Texas, where 24 officers have died since the pandemic began. Another 12 police have died after contracting the virus in nearby Louisiana. Officer Down also reports that non-coronavirus related police officer deaths in the line of duty are down in 2020, despite widespread civil unrest. Thirty-one police have died from gunfire this year, the second-leading cause of death among officers in the line of duty. Another four officers have died as a result of "inadvertent" gunfire.President Donald Trump has repeatedly pushed the narrative that police officers across the country are under "assault" by left-wing activists throughout the 2020 presidential campaign.Earlier this year, Trump signed the Safeguarding America's First Responders Act of 2020, which offers federal benefits to the families of police officers killed by COVID-19. 2187

The COVID-19 pandemic changed all industries, including those for celebrities. Forbes says the world’s highest-paid celebrities brought in a combined 0 million less in 2020 compared to 2019.But don’t feel too bad for them, the top 10 list earned a combined .1 billion this year before taxes and fees. The top earner in 2020, according to Forbes, was Kylie Jenner, who brought in 0 million, mostly from selling a majority stake in her cosmetics firm.Number two stays in the family; Kanye West, Jenner’s brother-in-law, brought in 0 million this year, helped by his Yeezy sneakers deal with adidas.Pandemic-impacted sports cancellations couldn’t dent Roger Federer, Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, apparently, Forbes has the three athletes at number 3, 4 and 5 on their list, respectively. Each brought in just over 0 million in 2020, likely helped by endorsement deals and multi-year contracts.Other athletes in the top 10 include Neymar at number 7, who brought in .5 million, and LeBron James at number 9, with .2 million. In September, Forbes announced Tyler Perry was officially a billionaire, owning the rights to his 20-plus movies and continuing to produce content during the pandemic. He also makes the list of top 10 highest-paid celebrities of 2020 at number 6, reportedly bringing in million this year.Howard Stern is the highest-paid radio host, thanks to his eight-figure contract with SiriusXM, and is number 9 on the list of 2020 earners with million for the year.Rounding out the top 10 is Dwayne Johnson, who brought in .5 million this year, mostly from payments for forthcoming movies.Forbes observes the coronavirus pandemic has impacted celebrities in different ways. As live events, like concert tours and sports games, were cancelled and took away potential revenue, online and streaming opportunities like Netflix content deals provided new income. For reference, Forbes reported Taylor Swift, Kylie Jenner and Kanye West as the top three highest-paid celebrities of 2019. Swift topped the list last year with 5 million in 2019. She fell to number 25 on the highest-paid list in 2020. 2148
The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh has received about 50 new allegations of abuse in the week since a grand jury report was published about sexual abuse by priests, according to diocese spokesman Rev. Nicholas Vaskov, as reported in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette."All of the allegations are from prior to 1990 and go back as far as the 1940s," Vaskov said in a statement to the Post Gazette.CNN has reached out to the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh but has yet to hear back.None of the new allegations have yet been turned over to prosecutors, according to the district attorney's office in Allegheny County.Mike Manko, the spokesman for the district attorney, told CNN he was "not aware of any new referrals."The new allegations come in the wake of a Pennsylvania grand jury report that documented decades of alleged sexual abuse by priests and a system of cover-ups by Church higher-ups. Citing internal documents from six Catholic dioceses -- including Pittsburgh -- the report showed that more than 300 priests had been credibly accused of sexually abusing more than 1,000 children. 1092
The calendar is about to flip from April to May, and normally storm chasers are flooding Tornado Alley to get a glimpse at the power of Mother Nature. But so far in 2018, there has not been much to chase. According to the National Weather Service, the state of Oklahoma, which is in the heart of Tornado Alley, has gone the entire year so far without a single confirmed tornado touchdown. Not since before 1950 has Oklahoma gone the first four months without a single tornado touchdown. By the end of April, the state would have averaged 17 tornado touchdowns. Last year, 13 tornadoes had touched down by the end of April. In 2016, there were 27 touchdowns in the month of April alone. In 2012, there were 54 confirmed touchdowns in April. The state of Kansas has also gone the entire year without a tornado. According to National Weather Service data, the state averages 12 tornadoes in the month of April alone. "On the whole, across the United States, we have seen around half the number of eyewitnessed tornado reports that we would normally expect by this time of year," Dr. Patrick Marsh, a meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center, told CNN. Meteorologists are blaming, or crediting, a jet stream pattern that has sent big snow storms into the Upper Midwest for the decreased number of tornadoes. The pattern has prevented warm moist air from setting up in the Plains, which has cut off any fuel for potential tornadoes. According to the Storm Prediction Center, the upcoming weekend appears to void of any major severe weather outbreaks. The next potential for severe storms could setup in the Plains on Tuesday and Wednesday. 1692
