Retailers and logistics experts say, like everything else in 2020, this year's holiday shopping season will be like no other. They’re having a capacity crunch, not enough drivers, not enough trucks not enough warehouses right now, because of all the things the pandemic has done. We’ve started shopping online more and more and no one anticipated it.”Logistics and shipping are her expertise.“We help them think about what are the trucks doing what are the packages doing what’s happening with on time delivery what kind of damage is happening so they can give consumers the best delivery experience- holidays or not,” Newbold-Knipp said.This year, holiday gifts will undergo a true supply and demand issue, magnified by a pandemic and already backfilled orders. Add in staffing made difficult by things like social distancing and we've got problems.“The other thing that consumers don’t think about is that the actual warehouse space to be able to fulfill orders is limited. They might not have the inventory so fulfillment times are delaying, the pick and pack piece is taking longer and the trucking piece is taking longer,” said Newbold-Knipp.She said consumers need to think ahead, have a backup plan, look for alternatives, use multiple retailers, shop locally, and sign up for text alerts."Only 5% are signing up for SMS alerts, but by regulation the retailer can’t spam you. They’re only allowed to send you a transactional note via text,” Newbold-Knipp said.She also said things that tend to sell out are the items that don't have much variation, such as televisions, toys and specific electronics.“If we see the kind of growth at Christmas that we’ve seen the last few months, we could be looking at 50% growth over last year in terms of online demand,” BolotskyHe recommends having Santa come early, and hide those items until the big day. 3006

(AP) — Ron Dellums, a fiery anti-war activist who championed social justice as Northern California's first black congressman, died Monday from cancer, according to a longtime adviser. He was 82.Dellums died at his home in Washington.A former Marine who got his start in politics on the City Council of the liberal enclave of Berkeley, he defeated a labor-backed Democrat to win his first election to Congress in 1970. He retired in 1998 and was later elected mayor of his native Oakland in 2006."He was absolutely committed to what was right and what was just and believed that you had to do whatever you could to fight for that," said Dan Lindheim, who learned of Dellums' death from his wife, Cynthia Dellums.A self-identified Democratic socialist, Dellums was at the center of most major liberal movements of the 1970s and 1980s. He led the drive to sanction South Africa during apartheid, challenged U.S. entry into wars, opposed increased military spending and helped start the Congressional Black Caucus.During Dellums' first campaign for Congress in 1970, then-Vice President Spiro Agnew branded him an "out-and-out radical."Later in his victory speech, Dellums wryly referred to Agnew, a Republican, as his public relations agent, according to the U.S. House of Representatives' archives.The Rev. Jesse Jackson, a friend of Dellums, said U.S. sanctions and divestment from South Africa during apartheid would not have happened without Dellums, who pushed legislation for nearly 15 years to place economic restrictions on that nation.Legislation didn't pass until 1986, and Congress had to override a veto from then-President Ronald Reagan."It was his voice that brought the sanctions on South Africa," Jackson said of Dellums.He opposed almost every U.S. entry into military conflict during his tenure in Congress and, as head of the Congressional Black Caucus, began submitting his own version of a scaled-back military budget. He rose through the ranks of the House Armed Services Committee to become its first black chairman in 1993.Lindheim remembered Dellums as a gifted orator with a photographic memory who could speak without notes and never needed a word of his remarks to be corrected in the Congressional Record.Sometimes, Lindheim said, Dellums would take speech notes onto the House floor just so he didn't intimidate his colleagues by speaking without them.Dellums jokingly referred to himself the way his critics did — as a left-wing, anti-war, commie, pinko activist from Berkeley, Lindheim said.Dellums retired from Congress in 1998, a move that surprised his colleagues."To get up every day and put on your uniform and put on your tie and march on the floor of Congress knowing that, in your hands, in that card, in your very being, you have life and death in your hands, it is an incredible thing," he said in one of his final speeches, according to the Congressional Record.Dellums became a lobbyist before returning to politics as mayor of Oakland in 2006, a seat he narrowly won. Robot janitors are already at Walmart, so they are now making their way to Sam's Club.According to a press release by Brain Corp, which is the company making the robot floor scrubbers, Sam's Club will put 372 of them into its stores by this fall.In 2018, Walmart placed the Auto-C – Autonomous Cleaner into 78 Walmart stores.Walmart, which owns Sam's, announced last year it would bring autonomous floor scrubbers to more than 1,800 of its stores by next February, CNN reported.The company says that's so employees can help customers instead of mopping floors."After an associate preps the area, this machine can be programmed to travel throughout the open parts of the store, leaving behind a clean, polished floor," Walmart said in a press release. "Auto-C provides a cleaner shopping experience for our customers, and it frees up our associates to serve them better." 878

Roger Goodell would like to see Colin Kaepernick back in the NFL this season. The NFL commissioner said during ESPN’s “The Return of Sports” special on Monday that he is encouraging teams to sign the 32-year old quarterback, who hasn’t played the past three seasons. Kaepernick was with the San Francisco 49ers in 2016 when he kneeled during the national anthem to protest racial injustice. He became a free agent following that season and did not receive a contract offer.Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said last week that he received a call from another team about Kaepernick. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Inmates in California prisons would be housed by their gender identity according to a bill moving through the state Legislature.The California Senate voted 29-7 on Thursday to require the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to ask inmates their gender identity and to put them in prisons designed for that gender. The only exception would be if the department believed it would pose a significant security risk.The bill would require the department to refer to inmates by their preferred gender pronoun.Bill author Sen. Scott Wiener, a San Francisco Democrat, says transgender women put in prisons with men are often assaulted and raped and put in isolation for their safety.The bill now heads to the state Assembly. 771
