Jindel says the U.S. Postal Service might be a good alternative for retailers now that it has gotten through the deluge of mail-in ballots during the elections. He estimates that the Postal Service’s temporary surcharges mostly range from 25 cents to 40 cents per package is considerably lower than to per package at major carriers.“Our network is designed to handle temporary and seasonal increases in volume and we have the ability to deliver those additional holiday packages in a timely manner,” said Kimberly Frum, a spokeswoman at the U.S. Postal Service.For the holidays, FedEx is hiring 70,000 workers, while UPS is in the throes of hiring more than 100,000 temporary employees.Lee Spratt is the Americas CEO for DHL eCommerce Solutions, a division that specializes in processing small packages for mid- to large-size shippers. He predicts online shopping to be up to 50% higher this holiday season compared to the year-ago period. SACRAMENTO (KGTV) -- California ranks 37th in the nation for DUI fatalities and some cities have a DUI fatality rate two times higher than the state average, according to a new study.According to the study by ValuePenguin.com, mid-sized cities in The Golden State pose the largest risk.The study shows that several mid-sized cities, Barstow, Desert Hot Springs and San Pablo had an average of more than 10 DUI-related fatalities per 100,000 residents in recent years, or more than 10 times the state average.The study also found that five California cities, Vista, Hemet, Delano, Murrieta and Pittsburg saw DUI fatalities increase between 140 to 700 percent between 2012 and 2017.See the chart below for the complete list of cities with the highest DUI fatalities:  783

Gavin Newsom's office has tested positive for the coronavirus this week, according to the governor's office.The staff member, who was not named, had not interacted with Newsom or staff that routinely interacts with the governor, a statement read.Another state employee who also works in a shared space with some of Newsom's staff also tested positive for COVID-19, but that person also has not interacted with the governor or close staff.Newsom's office requires mask wearing, minimal staff in the office, and most meetings have been converted to video conferencing, the statement said.The governor said Wednesday that he's been tested multiple times and has never been positive, “and I look forward to getting tested again."The Associated Press contributed to this report. 832

Jerry Brown announced Friday he pardoned three former prisoners facing the threat of deportation to Cambodia, including one who became a youth pastor after serving six years in the 1990s for murdering a rival gang member.The three were among 36 pardons granted by Brown within the past week.
