Actor Mark Wahlberg said on Tuesday that he would consider buying a professional soccer team in Ohio whose current owner is attempting to relocate the team to Texas. The Columbus Crew SC is planning to move to Austin, Texas after its owner, Anthony Precourt, successfully lobbied Austin City Council on Wednesday for a land deal with the city. But a lawsuit in Ohio could complicate Precourt's move, and potentially could force Precourt to sell the franchise to an owner who intends to keep the team in Ohio.A law was hatched two decades ago after Art Modell infamously moved the Cleveland Browns to Baltimore. Ohio has a law that stipulates teams that receive local or state government support must give an opportunity to sell the team to local owners before relocating. One caveat is the law has never been tested, and would likely go through extensive appeals if successful. While Wahlberg is not from Ohio, he recently purchased a Chevrolet dealership in Columbus, which gained a few laughs on CBS' "Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Tuesday. Before opting to buy the Crew SC, Wahlberg said he would need to consult his friend Robert Kraft, who owns the New England Revolution of the MLS. Kraft is also the owner of the NFL's New England Patriots. “If I needed any advice about MLS and about owning a soccer team and where the league is heading, I would certainly pick nobody’s brain more than Robert Kraft,” Wahlberg told WHDH-TV. On Monday, Wahlberg was in Columbus at his new dealership and was asked by a reporter from WSYX-TV if he would have any interest in purchasing the soccer team. “Actually, you know what, I certainly would," Wahlberg told WSYX. "My dear friend Bob Kraft has not only (owns) the Patriots, but he owns the New England Revolution as well. I have a bunch of people who are involved. I think that may be something we need to discuss. I became a huge, huge soccer fan. This World Cup really got me.”According to ESPN, when asked about Wahlberg's interest in the Crew SC, the league downplayed his overtures. The MLS is a co-defendant with Precourt in the State of Ohio's lawsuit. In 2013, Forbes reported that Precourt purchased the Crew SC for million. The price tag for an MLS franchise is likely considerably higher as the expansion fee in the league has been reported to be as high as 0 million. Crew SC's home pitch MAPFRE Stadium was the first built specifically for MLS play, and has since been an important stop for the US Men's National Team. The team has played its quadrennial home World Cup qualifier against Mexico in the stadium every time since the stadium opened in 1999. 2695

A wave of construction will bring thousands of new apartments to downtown in the next few years. As those complexes start to open, they could bring relief to San Diego's housing crisis. This July, Park 12 will be the biggest to open, adding 718 units to the downtown area. The complex features three buildings, including a 37 story tower. Jerry Brand, with developer Greystar, says they wanted to go big in downtown because they see the area going through tremendous growth."Last year, San Diego had the largest employment growth in CA as a city. It was about 30,000 jobs, and that doesn't include the military," Brand says. "That creates housing demand, so we're seeing continued demand in the future."Other developers agree. According to Civic San Diego's 2017 Downtown Development Report, there were 1,014 new apartments completed in downtown in 2017. That's the third most since 2001. The report shows another 10,561 apartments either under construction, waiting to be built, or waiting for approval.Little Italy is one of the fastest growing areas. Projects like Luma, AV 8, Amo and Vici will add nearly 600 apartments to the area by the start of 2019."This is the most dynamic neighborhood in San Diego," says Rich Gustafson, the President of CityMark Development. They're putting the finishing touches on AV8, which will have 133 units."The demand is there," he says. "San Diego, in general, is slow in providing the housing supply, but we're doing the best that we can in Little Italy."It's not just apartments. Across Downtown, Civic San Diego says there are 1,213 condominiums either under construction or in the planning stages. When they open, they'll be the first new condos completed downtown since 2009.The website UrbDeZine.com has a map showing all of the development going on downtown. To see the full report from Civic San Diego, click here.  UPDATE: This article was corrected from an earlier version that stated Park 12 will have four buildings. It will have three. 2012

About 60 percent of restaurants that had to close during the pandemic are now permanently closed, according to review site Yelp.Across industries, Yelp reports that 132,580 businesses that were listed as “open” on March 1 are now marked “closed”, and roughly 55 percent of those closures are permanent. Those percentages translate to 72,842 businesses permanently closed as of July 10 that were open in March, and more than 15,700 of those are restaurants.Las Vegas is suffering from the highest rate of closed businesses, with 861 that are now permanently closed. Las Vegas has seen a huge decrease in tourism, and according to Yelp, this accounts for the spike in closures. The rate of permanent closures has increased since April as the coronavirus pandemic spreads and businesses of all kinds are forced to close or adjust how they interact with customers, sometimes resulting in fewer sales. Yelp reports that the number of total closures, though, has fluctuated as states reopen and close down again based on outbreaks. However, some businesses are seeing far fewer permanent closures. These include professional services like lawyers, accountants, web design and tutors or educators. Health services like physicians, mental health services, and health coaches are also seeing fewer permanent closures during the pandemic.“With nearly every state (and even county) taking a tailored approach to reopening local economies we expect these shifts in consumer interest and business closures to continue to move at an unpredictable pace,” the report stated. As businesses opened up in June, Yelp reports that people are searching for alcohol-related experiences, with an increase in searches for wineries (up 51 percent since May), cideries (up 39 percent) and breweries (up 24 percent). Searches for outdoors activities has also increased since May, like ziplining (up 44%) and ATV rentals (up 37%). 1906

After threatening to shut off city utilities to homes in Los Angeles violating coronavirus pandemic public health orders, the mayor has taken action twice so far. Both houses reportedly continued to hold large gatherings or parties despite rules limiting group sizes to limit the spread of the coronavirus. On Tuesday, Mayor Eric Garcetti authorized city employees to shut off service to a home after its owner and residents held multiple large parties. The home is in the Cahuenga Pass area, near Hollywood Hills.https://twitter.com/MayorOfLA/status/1300905954666360832Los Angeles police responded to the home on August 24 after reports of a large gathering, according to the LA Times, and officers posted warnings on the property. The house hosted another large gathering on Sunday. The mayor then authorized services shut off.On August 5, Mayor Garcetti said he would authorize crews to shut off city water and power to homes that violated city rules limiting gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic. The first home to have their utility service disconnected was on August 19 in the Hollywood Hills area. In a tweet, the mayor said the action was taken “to stop the large parties held there in flagrant violation of our public health orders.”https://twitter.com/MayorOfLA/status/1296203922911027200The rental home was reportedly being used by Tik Tok stars Bryce Hall and Blake Gray, who are now facing charges. When he announced the misdemeanor charges, City Attorney Mike Feuer said he is not aware of any COVID-19 cases at the time that have been linked to their parties.Police have left warning notices at another home after a large party this week, according to KTLA.Garcetti and city officials are warning people to be safe and stay distant over Labor Day weekend.“Gatherings — parties, cook-outs and the other activities we usually do with non-household members on holidays — can easily lead to increases in transmission, hospitalizations and deaths,” L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said in a statement. 2041
