A young boy who was abandoned at a Goodwill drop-off in Mississippi is now with Child Protective Services and police have at least one suspect in custody.Southaven police posted on social media Monday about the boy, who they believe is about 2 years old. They told WREG he had a change of clothes, some food and a note written on a paper towel that read, “child abandoned … no phone number for mom.”Southaven is just south of Memphis across the Mississippi border.The boy was unable to give his name or the names of any parents or relatives to officers, and they posted to social media asking the public for help identifying any relative or possible suspects.Later Monday afternoon, police said they received numerous tips in addition to surveillance video."Southaven Police received numerous tips, and with the assistance of F.B.I. offices in both Mississippi, and Tennessee, along with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department a suspect related to this case was taken into custody in Memphis at approximately 15:30 hours. At this time the investigation is still on going, no suspect information or charges are being released," they posted on Facebook. “Chief Moore would like to thank all of the citizens who showed concern for the child, rest assured he is well, and being taken care of and will be re-united with family when CPS determines this is proper,” police added later on Facebook. 1398

About 40,000 workers in the airline industry are facing layoffs on Thursday unless Congress comes up with another aid package. Many are worried about how they'll pay for rents, mortgages and food, or for health insurance. A clause in the billion aid package to airlines at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic prevented them from laying off workers. But that clause expires on Thursday. Some workers are holding out hope that another agreement can still be reached. Airbnb announced new rules for New Year's Eve to prevent parties and large gatherings at its properties amid a surge in coronavirus cases.The vacation rental company released its plan on Thursday to limit rentals in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, Australia, France, and Spain.The new measures state that Airbnb would require guests who don't have a positive review history to book a minimum of two nights for any stay, including Dec. 31. Any guests with reservations on Dec. 31 must swear that they will not throw a party under threat of legal charges.The company said that guests who have a history of positive reviews on Airbnb would not be subject to this restriction.The company said it would allow already-booked one-night reservations to continue as planned since their "data has historically shown that one-night New Year’s Eve bookings made prior to now very rarely lead to unauthorized parties." 936

(KGTV) - Neighbors are fearful and outraged at the idea a sexual predator could move in next door after running into a detective investigating the neighborhood.Tucked away in Alpine Heights is a quiet sprawling neighborhood with multiple cul-de-sacs."Most people don't even know we're here," three decade resident Gerry Brewster said.David Csik and his wife Katie moved in two years ago and describe the area as a kid's dream, filled with block parties, and get-togethers around the BBQ or the pool. They have two kids, a toddler son, and 6-month old baby girl."We moved to Alpine for the community and to send our children to the schools out here; it's all we've ever wanted," Katie said.December 14th, they say a neighbor approached someone walking around a vacant property next door and found out she was an investigator for the Sexual Assault Felony Enforcement Task Force (SAFE). "They're writing what they call a factual site assessment which they submit to the courts and they're looking to place a sexually violent predator right down the street," David said they were shocked. Katie was ready to get going, "my initial thought was we have to move."The neighborhood jumped into action, writing stacks of concerned letters to their representatives and investigators with the SAFE Task Force.Supervisor Dianne Jacob responded to their emails, saying in part, "At this time, the County has not been made aware of any recommendation to place a SVP at this location. When a SVP is being proposed for conditional release from a state hospital, a public notification is provided by law enforcement and a court hearing takes place before a SVP is placed in the community. I have consistently stood with the community in opposition and will continue to oppose the release of any SVP into our neighborhoods."She said in the email she also contacted the Attorney General and is waiting to hear back.The neighbors did not wait. They created a map showing dozens of children who either live in the vicinity or visit their grandparents daily. After sending the letters, and after SAFE conducted their investigation, the District Attorney did not take this address to court as a possibility for a reformed sexual predator.It was a relief to parents. "I would never have slept at night knowing someone like that was around here," Katie said.While this particular case was thrown out, neighbors want a secure future."What we want to see is this property off the map out of their database," David said.The San Diego District Attorney's website says, "The Department of State Hospitals reviews all possible housing locations within the county and recommends a specific placement to the court." The department states, "Staff examines existing searches for properties that were previously identified. Such information is used only as a starting point. Staff uses many resources to find potential properties for rent including review of newspaper and Craigslist advertisements; visiting local real estate offices and even, driving through neighborhoods in search of "For Rent" signs."10News reached out to the department to see if this house has been removed from the database or how that could happen, and they said they would get back to us Friday. 3259

A Highlands County, Florida resident has died from rabies after being bitten by a bat, the Florida Department of Health has confirmed.The DOH says that the disease was likely transmitted when the individual was bitten by the bat. They say that the individual did not seek treatment at that time and did not receive rabies post-exposure prophylaxis. The individual passed away from the rabies infection.DOH says that it is important to avoid direct contact with wildlife. If you believe you may have been exposed to rabies, including any physical contact with a bat, contact your health care provider and your county health department right away.If an exposure occurred, it is important to administer treatment in a timely manner.
