The Senate Finance Committee put big pharmaceutical companies on blast for their sky-high drug prices. Seven drug executives were grilled in a heated exchange with lawmakers, who were questioning their pricing practices. Pharmaceutical company Pfizer has raised the price of the popular diabetes drug Lyrica by 163 percent since 2012. Each of the pharmaceutical companies insisted the high costs is because it takes a lot of money to research and develop better more effective drugs. The Senate committee did not agree. The Big Pharma panel did offer ideas to find solutions to lower drug prices, including passing rebates. Additionally, Merck, as well as the majority of the panel, say they support the stop of price hikes on medicines that have no competition and encourages competition elsewhere. However, Senate members like Maria Cantwell of Washington, say Big Pharma says it wants to solve the issue, but ultimately didn't offer anything worthy to create change. "I think if you guys can't agree that these basic market functions that allow people to buy in bulk or on discount is good ideas for consumers, then I don't think we are going to come up with anything we agree on here,” Cantwell said during the hearing.Lawmakers, including some of those on the Senate Finance Committee, receive funds every year from the pharmaceutical industry. There are growing safety concerns about Boeing's best-selling plane, following a second crash involving the plane in less than five months. On Sunday, 157 people died, including 8 Americans, after a Boeing 737 MAX 8 crashed in Ethiopia. In October, 189 died when the same kind of plane crashed into the sea off Indonesia. Investigators are now looking into the similarities. Both jets were Boeing 737 MAX 8s, and both flights crashed shortly after take-off. Pilots on both flights and tried returning to the airport prior to crashing. “Absolutely there are concerns, and the alarms should be and are going off all throughout the aviation industry,” says Mary Schiavo, a former inspector general of the U.S. Department of Transportation. The crashes remain under investigation, and it's not known if any of the same factors contributed to either crash. But out of caution, China and Indonesia have grounded the planes. Some foreign airlines have also suspended the use of the planes. In the U.S., American and Southwest airlines both use the 737 Max 8 planes but are still flying them. “For as long as the airlines continue flying the planes, it's because they feel it's safe,” says aviation expert Seth Kaplan. “There's so much risk here. Not just for safety, but for their businesses.” Today, Boeing issued a statement saying, in part, "… based on the information available, we do not have any basis to issue new guidance to operators." WASHINGTON, D.C. – Members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted Wednesday to impeach President Donald Trump on allegations of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress following an entire day of debate on the House floor. The House Rules Committee adopted guidelines Tuesday that spelled out how the vote went down. Under those rules, Democrats and Republicans had six hours to debate the impeachment articles. The time was split evenly between the two parties. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi opened the debate by accusing Trump of violating the Constitution and urging members to honor their oath of office. "It is tragic that the president's reckless actions make impeachment necessary,” said Pelosi. “He gives us no choice."The debate was controlled by Reps. A firefighter who died on September 11 was laid to rest Tuesday after his remains were identified 18 years later.Firefighters and loved ones gathered to mourn Michael Haub after his remains were conclusively identified, the Uniformed Firefighters Association said in a statement. It said the service was to provide his family with closure and a peace of mind after the medical examiner last week identified more of his remains that were recovered at Ground Zero.As of July this year, the remains of only about 60% of the 2,753 people killed at the World Trade Center that day have been positively identified, according to the medical examiner's office.Haub was a 13-year veteran of Ladder Company 4, according to the association."We remember him and the 342 other firefighters who perished that fateful day, and will be forever grateful for the courage they show," it said in a statement Tuesday.In addition to the firefighters killed that day, hundreds more have died in the following years. New York officials say an additional 200 firefighters have lost their lives from illnesses linked to their time working at the World Trade Center after the terror attacks on September 11, 2001."It is almost incomprehensible that after losing 343 members on September 11, we have now had 200 more FDNY members die due to World Trade Center illness," Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said in July. "These heroes gave their lives bravely fighting to rescue and recover others. “I have never in 23 years ran across this!”That's how assistant Bristow, Oklahoma police chief Kendra Raney described what happened in the ladies restroom of Walmart on Tuesday. "A Walmart employee requesting an ambulance for a lady that was inside the women's bathroom either having a miscarriage, or having a baby," Raney said. That 911 call triggered emergency responses from multiple agencies, including police, fire and the Creek County Ambulance service. It sent paramedics racing to help.Raney described what first responders found, stating, "I understand the Walmart employees performed lifesaving measures and when the ambulance got there, they transported them both to a Tulsa Hospital."The Bristow Fire Department report shows it paramedics worked on the baby girl for 17 minutes. They gave her oxygen and cleared her airways. Finally, she took breaths on her own and made a weak cry.Why was the baby was born in the Walmart restroom? "Mom stated that she started having contractions about 2:30 in the morning that morning and she didn't think that they warranted a visit to the hospital," Raney explains. "She got up later, got her kids off to school and felt that she needed to use the restroom, so she stopped at the Walmart which the middle school's right across from the Walmart."Raney says the mother felt some pressure and then the baby came out. We asked how the mother and baby girl are doing now. Then she added, "Both are gonna make it."Raney said, the incident is still under investigation. Bristow police are not releasing the mother's name, or which hospital the mother and baby were taken to in Tulsa.
