A Wisconsin family is sending out pleas for help after their infant son was told he has just weeks to live without a new liver. Marcus Albers was born in October. His mother says there were complications with his pregnancy but he came out no worse for wear. However, he was diagnosed with Immunodeficiency 47; an extremely rare disorder that attacked his liver. "It's extremely rare," Whitney McLean, the boy's mother said. "From what we've been told, there are 12 cases in the world." Extremely rare but in this family twice. McLean says her two-year-old son Dominic also has the genetic disorder but it's not nearly as severe. "[Dominic] is on the liver transplant list but his condition isn't as critical," McLean said. The family found out about the disorder during the pregnancy with Marcus. McLean found out she was a carrier for the disease and there was no way she could have known because it's only present in boys. "My grandmother had all girls," McLean said. "My mom had all girls and we had two boys. My sister had a baby and it was a girl."Basically, McLean says because she's a carrier, she has one X-chromosome with the disorder and one without. Males have both an X and Y chromosome so she had a 50/50 chance of her son's having the disorder. If she had daughters, her family still wouldn't have any idea. "In the back of our minds, we were concerned of liver issues because of our oldest son," McLean said. "They started taking labs and they started to go in the wrong direction."Marcus' liver began to fail just about three weeks ago. An MRI showed significant liver damage. "We have been here ever since," McLean said. "He's already very resilient. There have been a lot of labs and what he's gone through, I don't think a lot of adults could handle. He's very resilient."McLean knows resiliency in a hospital setting. She's a nurse at Froedtert. So while she's encouraged by his strength at just five-months-old, her experience shows her how dire this situation is. "We were told Marcus has weeks to live and that was a week and a half ago," she said. "So it's pretty dire."That is, unless he gets a liver donation. The liver is one of many organs which can be donated by a living donor. In 2018, there were 36,518 organ donations in the United States. According to the U.S. Government Information on Organ Donation and Transplantation, this included kidneys (21,167), liver (8,250), heart (3,408), lung (2,530), kidney/pancreas (835), pancreas (192), intestine (104) and heart/lung (32).There were only 7,000 live donor transplants last year which accounted for less than 20 percent of all donations. Outside of heart transplants, most other transplants could have used a willing live donor. So more than 90 percent of the 2018 transplants could have potentially used a live donor. Something Marcus' family is praying for. "We don't have a lot of time," McLean said. "We need people who are serious and strict to the criteria. If you are serious and want to help us, we will take the help."The checklist is pretty extensive but not impossible. ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. — At least seven people were killed and several others injured in a fiery crash on Interstate 75 near Gainesville on Thursday.According to Alachua County Fire Rescue, the crash occurred at 3:42 p.m. on I-75 near mile marker 393 north of Northwest 39th Avenue. Florida Highway Patrol says that the crash involved two tractor-trailers, a passenger van and a mid-size four-door sedan. The two tractor-trailers were close together and caught on fire. The passenger van was also involved in the fire.Six fatalities were initially reported on scene, one additional fatality was reported by 8 p.m. Thursday. Additionally, at least seven patients were transported to area hospitals from the scene, multiple patients with critical injuries. The fire was put out around 5:15 p.m. Thursday. Fire officials say that 50 gallons of diesel fuel spilled as a result of the crash.ACFR's UAV team and ASO's AIR 1 helicopter responded to the scene to help with locating possible patients that may have been ejected during the crash. Southbound I-75 was shut down in the area for extensive periods on Thursday, and could remained closed through the morning commute on Friday. There is a significant amount of damage to the road due to the fire. The road will be closed for several more hours. All northbound lanes of I-75 reopened at 8 p.m. Thursday.The UF Health emergency response mass casualty plan was activated at approximately 4:25 p.m. due to the accident. A second federal judge has issued an order permanently blocking the Trump administration from adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census in any form, despite the Trump administration's insistence it has abandoned plans to add the question on the census.The latest order is from Judge George Hazel who is overseeing a case in federal court in Maryland. New York federal judge Jesse Furman issued a nearly identical order Tuesday.Both judges will also continue to monitor the controversial issue, saying they will both retain jurisdiction in the case until the 2020 census results are processed.Plaintiffs in the New York case have asked the judge for additional discovery and to consider sanctions against administration officials if the judge ultimately determines they were untruthful in recounting the motivation behind adding a citizenship question.President Donald Trump announced last week that he will seek citizenship information from agencies that already collect the data, and will not pursue placing a citizenship question on the 2020 census. The Supreme Court in June blocked the question from being added.Changes to the census could impact the balance of power in states and the House of Representatives, which are based on total population. Census data is used for the allocation of congressional seats and the distribution of billions of federal dollars to states and localities over the next decade.The Trump administration has claimed the citizenship question on the census questionnaire was necessary to better comply with federal voting rights law. American hiring rebounded last month after an unusually weak job market in February, but signs still point to a gradual economic slowdown.The US economy added 196,000 jobs in March, up from 33,000 the prior month. Despite a slight upward revision from the original estimate, February hiring remained the weakest since September 2017.Meanwhile, the unemployment rate remained at 3.8%, a level near historic lows.While March hiring was robust, it brings the first-quarter average to 180,000 jobs created per month, down from 223,000 per month on average in 2018.
