The moderators for the 2020 presidential and vice presidential debates have been announced.The Commission on Presidential Debates announced the moderators Wednesday morning for the events this fall.Chris Wallace, a host on Fox News, will moderate the first debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden on September 29. It will be held at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. This debate was originally scheduled to take place at the University of Notre Dame, however they withdrew citing coronavirus pandemic concerns.Vice President Mike Pence will debate Senator Kamala Harris, the democratic vice presidential candidate, on October 7 in a debate moderated by Susan Page, the Washington Bureau Chief at USA Today. The one and only vice presidential debate will be held at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah.Trump and Biden will face-off again on October 15, moderated by Steve Scully who is a political editor at C-SPAN, and on October 22 moderated by Kristen Welker, White House correspondent for NBC News.The October 15 event will be held in Miami, after the University of Michigan withdrew citing coronavirus pandemic concerns. This debate format will be more like a “town meeting,” according to the commission and agreed to by both parties. Questions will be asked of both candidates by citizens in South Florida.The last scheduled presidential debate is planned for Belmont University in Nashville.At this time, all four debates are scheduled for 90 minutes. With the exception of the October 15 debate, the other events will be formatted to have the moderator asking questions and allowing the candidates 2 minutes to respond.The segments and topics will be determined by the moderator and announced closer to the event date. 1796

The man authorities believe is the Golden State Killer will face yet another murder charge, authorities said Monday.Joseph DeAngelo, 72, will be charged with the 1975 murder of Claude Snelling, with a special allegation of the use of a firearm, according to Stuart Anderson, spokesman for the Tulare County, California, district attorney's office.DeAngelo has already been charged in 12 killings, including the 1978 deaths of Katie and Brian Maggiore. Police say he committed a series of killings, rapes and other crimes attributed to the so-called Golden State Killer, also known as the East Area Rapist and the Original Night Stalker.The Visalia Police Department and officials with the district attorney's office will hold a news conference Monday to give details about the latest charge.Claude Snelling was shot and killed in September of 1975 as he charged at a masked man who was trying to abduct his daughter from his home, according to the Visalia Times Delta.Authorities said the Maggiores were killed after possibly spotting the Golden State Killer as they walked their dog near a home in Rancho Cordova, California, outside Sacramento. The complaint alleges that DeAngelo shot the couple using an "unknown caliber firearm."DeAngelo appeared in court in late April in a wheelchair, but didn't enter a plea to the charges of murdering the Maggiores.Decades after the killings terrified communities throughout California, authorities tracked down DeAngelo using data from an ancestry website where people submit their DNA results in hopes of tracking down relatives and ancestors.DNA from a crime scene was matched to genetic material from a relative who was registered on genealogy sites, and authorities later obtained a discarded sample of DeAngelo's DNA.DeAngelo, a former police officer, Vietnam veteran and mechanic, was a reclusive neighbor in Citrus Heights, a town about 16 miles northeast of Sacramento, according to residents. 1953

The old king of mobile messaging is coming after the new king.BlackBerry filed a lawsuit in California on Tuesday against Facebook, along with its subsidiaries WhatsApp and Instagram, for infringing on its messaging patents.BlackBerry claims in the lawsuit that the social media companies developed messaging applications that "co-opt BlackBerry's innovations" by using patented features touching on security, the user interface, and battery life."We have a strong claim that Facebook has infringed on our intellectual property, and after several years of dialogue, we also have an obligation to our shareholders to pursue appropriate legal remedies," a spokesperson for BlackBerry said in a statement provided to CNN.Facebook brushed off the suit as little more than a desperate move from a fading company."Blackberry's suit sadly reflects the current state of its messaging business," Paul Grewal, Facebook's deputy general counsel, said in a statement. "Having abandoned its efforts to innovate, BlackBerry is now looking to tax the innovation of others. The head of Interpol, who vanished after taking a flight to Beijing, is being held and investigated for corruption, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security said in a statement Monday.Meng Hongwei, who was also a vice minister of public security in China, has been accused by the Chinese government of accepting bribes and committing unspecified other crimes."(Meng) insisted on taking the wrong path and had only himself to blame (for his downfall)," the country's top law enforcement official, Zhao Kezhi, was quoted as saying in the statement.Chinese authorities had previously remained tight-lipped about the whereabouts of Meng, following his sudden disappearance last month after he flew from France to China.In an earlier statement released on Sunday, the Chinese government said Meng was "under investigation" by the National Supervisory Commission, the country's top anti-corruption unit, but gave no further details on whether he was in custody or what the charges might be.Concerns over Meng's whereabouts were first raised by wife, Grace, who reported him missing to French authorities in the city of Lyon, where the couple live, last Thursday.She was moved to contact authorities after she received a final text message on September 25, shortly after he arrived in China, with a knife emoji and instructions to "wait for my call."That call never came.The South China Morning Post, a Hong Kong-based newspaper known for its connections inside the Chinese government, said Meng was "taken away" for questioning upon landing in China last week.
