(KGTV) -- Billions of dollars could be at stake with Proposition 15.If passed, it would tax some commercial properties based on current market value instead of when it was bought. It could potentially bring in anywhere between .5 to .5 billion in new funding to local schools and governments, according to the Legislative Analyst’s Office.Brandon Foster is a small business owner in Oceanside. Even though he rents the space where his two gift shops are located, he is against Prop. 15.“We already have been told by our landlords, if that passes, they will be passing on that cost to us,” Foster said. “The landlords, a lot of them, have vacancies and things like that where they are struggling themselves. I understand why they need to pass that cost onto us.”The ad for No on Prop. 15 highlights a small business owner who said he had to close twice during the pandemic. The ad said Proposition 15 would raise “property taxes and rents on small business and they admit homeowners are next.”The change in property tax assessment would apply only to commercial or industrial properties valued at more than million. It would tax those properties at current market value rather than when it was bought.Residential and agricultural properties are not affected under Prop. 15.“They are very emotional, as ads are supposed to be,” said Lynn Reaser, chief economist at Pt. (CNN) -- Jollibee, the Philippines' largest fast food chain, is taking a big step to expand its business internationally.The company said it plans to acquire California-based Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, which has nearly 1,200 stores across more than 25 countries. The brand's cafes serve brewed coffee and sweet blended drinks like chocolate cookie lattes and frozen mango sunrise ice blended tea.Jollibee wants to focus on growing the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf brand in Asia. (KGTV) - A baby badger, once lethargic and in need of care, is recovering after treatment at the San Diego Humane Society’s Project Wildlife Center. The Department of Animal Services got a call Thursday about the badger in the Jewel Valley section of Boulevard in East San Diego County. The caller told animal experts the badger had not moved all day. An animal control officer responded to the scene and found the badger to be lethargic. The officer took the animal to the Humane Society facility on Gaines Street in Mission Valley for treatment. Veterinarians are bottle-feeding the badger, which weighs about two pounds, according to animal care expert Lauren DuBois. When the badger reaches adulthood, its diet will consist of small animals including ground squirrels and pocket gophers. DuBois said the badger will possibly be released to Fund for Animals in Ramona. Badgers can be aggressive and require ample space, according to DuBois. By Friday morning, Dan DeSousa, Director of Animal Services reported “the badger is doing well and is feisty.” Badgers, though rarely seen in San Diego, are native to the area, according to wildlife experts. “In my thirty years with Animal Services here in San Diego County, this is the first badger that our Department has ever encountered” said DeSousa. “We are thankful to have Project Wildlife here in our community to provide the needed care for these animals in their time of need.” Anyone who encounters a wild animal in distress can call 619-299-7012 to report the matter. 1532
