SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents can learn about the city's most iconic buildings this weekend during an open house of nearly 100 sites.Open House San Diego, hosted by the San Diego Architectural Foundation, is offering a free look into sites including buildings downtown, in Barrio Logan, Balboa Park, La Jolla, and elsewhere in the county March 23 and 24. Guests get designer-led tours of hidden gems and treasures across San Diego and can participate in a photo contest to win prizes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego leaders say they are working to help prepare the county's homeless population to protect themselves from the coronavirus.An outreach team has been busy installing hand washing stations across San Diego to address the virus concerns as it affects those experiencing homelessness. Team members have been helping individuals protect themselves against the virus by passing out hygiene kits that include hand sanitizer, info on symptoms, water, soap, tissues, and hand wipes.Nurses have also started to visit San Diego shelters to help prepare those staying there, especially those suffering from underlying medical conditions or who are older. Leaders say nurses are prepared to be on site to assist with screening potential patients and identify potential housing options if they need to be moved for care. Potential options include motels, government buidlings or facilities, or tents, according to leaders.According to the county, medical professionals are on high alert for any possible local outbreak. Currently, one person has been confirmed to have coronavirus. That patient is said to be doing well. Leaders added that there is no evidence of "community-based transmission" in San Diego.Those who are testing in San Diego County must do so through a primary doctor. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Reverend Sandra Dority knows the dangers of heart disease, the top killer in San Diego County."My sister just passed from a heart attack in December, and my mom had congestive heart failure," she told 10News this week.That's why the 74-year old makes sure to eat right, exercise and, above all, know her numbers."My blood pressure is 116 over 74, and that was after a five mile walk on Saturday," she says.Dority tells everyone she can to know their numbers. It's a message she says is especially important in the black community, where the prevalence of heart attacks, stroke and high blood pressure are higher than normal."We have to change our lifestyle," she says. "There is a better way to live, because the numbers aren't changing unless we change."Dority was one of the first people to join LiveWell San Diego in their Love Your Heart campaign, which offers free blood pressure screenings at hundreds of locations across the county. She brought information to her church, Mount Moriah Christian Church in Mira Mesa.Now, she volunteers at blood pressure screening events, helps run educational sessions, and makes sure pastors talk about heart health from the pulpit every Sunday."God is love and he wants us to reach out and let others know there's a better way to live. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Residents in Ocean Beach are expressing concern over massive gatherings consistently happening in their neighborhood.On Wednesday evening, ABC 10News captured video of what looked like a festival, with dozens of people socializing and playing music at a park near the OB Pier. Many among the crowd were observed not following county public health orders of social distancing and face coverings.San Diego police were called to the park after receiving complaints regarding the big crowds and noise.Earlier in the day, during the county's COVID-19 press conference with Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, the Ocean Beach Town Council addressed their concerns over the gatherings. The council asked San Diego leaders when they will do more to address the issues.Fletcher was asked about enforcement funding and how that would help with concerns like those raised by the OB Town Council."In the first bucket of enforcement that was provided, there are 13 staff who will be dedicated on those egregious and very blatant willful violations of what’s happening in addition to the efforts that we do around outbreaks and pre-outbreaks," Fletcher responded.Police said large gatherings in Ocean Beach take place every Wednesday.Mark Winkie, president of the OB Town Council, said, “We feel like we’re being disrespected. We call it ‘mayhem in Ocean Beach.' That’s really what it is right now.”Winkie said the town council has submitted multiple complaints along with a letter that said, in part: “They need to do something about the unacceptable levels of gatherings, gallons on trash left behind and illegal vendors selling merchandise.”Winkie added those are all huge public health concerns."We'd like some education to be done for the people down there. We don't want the police department to arrest people, we want the people to understand this is our community. You're welcome to be here, but you need to adhere to social distancing rules and respect our community,” Winkie said.So far, police have only responded to noise complaints in the area.City Councilmember Jennifer Campbell, whose district includes Ocean Beach, told ABC 10News in a statement that she is "committed to direct additional resources on Wednesday nights and has urged the mayor and county to enforce mask wearing and social distancing."Winkie said that's not enough."The city doing anything at all to prevent people from congregating closely together as they have been is not accurate, that hasn't been done,” said Winkie.Neighbors said many of the crowds start at the farmer's market then work their way towards the park.ABC 10News reached out to OB's Main Street Association, who is in charge of that event.
