SARASOTA, Fla. — A Florida woman says she fell ill with COVID-19 and passed the coronavirus onto her 99-year-old mother who lives with her.Ruta Jouniari said she felt sick in October. She had a fever, cough and headache."I literally couldn't breathe. I tried to take a breath and the pain in my lungs was so incredible," she said.Jouniari was hospitalized at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for three days, but did not need oxygen."The nights were horrific, you have night sweats, shivering. You're achy. You can't breathe," she said.Her mother, who Jouniari is the primary caregiver of in her home, later tested positive for COVID-19.Jouniari said her mother never left the house, so she knows she brought the virus home, but she doesn't know where she contracted it.Her mother's age put her at a high risk of contracting the virus. Her mother, she added, suffered from a stroke about seven years ago."The guilt trip that goes with a child giving their parent COVID is not a fun reality of life," she said.Jouniari said her mother was hospitalized for 10 days. She was on a ventilator in an intensive care unit. Doctors treated her mother with plasma, remdesivir and dexamethasone."Going in, it's so frightening and you're so scared and you're scared for yourself when you're the patient, but you're even more scared knowing the statistics of a 99-year-old going in," said Jouniari.Jouniari said her mother left the hospital on Monday."For her to come out and come home today and she's in her own room, her own bed, breathing on two liters of oxygen. It's just amazing," she said.She urges everyone to take precautions and protect the vulnerable population."I hate to say this, but you could kill them. I was witness to that. I could have. My mom is a miracle of miracles. She's a statistic anomaly. She shouldn't have made it and she did," said Jouniari.She said she appreciates everyone who prayed for her mother. She said she is also thankful for the doctors and nurses who cared for her mother."I had over 800 people praying for her and it was incredible...the power of that was just amazing," Jouniari said. "For those families who are suffering, I hope they have solace and peace, just pray hard and have faith just know that people at 99 make it out. SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) — An elderly, disabled man has died after his East County mobile home caught fire.The man, who authorities say had trouble getting around, called first responders to the fire at 8301 Mission Gorge Rd. around 1 a.m. Saturday, according to San Diego Sheriff's Department bomb and arson unit.Deputies arrived but thick smoke prevents them from immediately entering the building and had to wait for fire crews.The man was later found dead inside. His identity has not been released.It's not yet clear how the fire started but investigators believe it began in the back of the home.Nearby mobile homes were evacuated for a short time before residents were allowed to return. 714

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- 92 Drinks + Eats, formerly known as 92nd Street Cafe, was known for karaoke, dancing, and flowing drinks on most nights. But now, things are different due to COVID-19, and owner Nicole Dinkel is working hard to keep her doors open while keeping customers happy."This industry has been affected very hard," said Dinkel. "We're out here just trying to do the best we can. We're a small business, I run this with my father day-to-day."Dinkel said she and her father, Ed, have been forced to shut down three times over the past few months.The first time was in March when Governor Doug Ducey issued a Stay-At-Home order for Arizona. The second time was after several of their employees tested positive for COVID-19, and a third time after trying to re-configure the usually busy bar to offer a safer dine-in experience."The signage on the door over here "mask up," it says 'avoid the humans keep, your six-foot distance,"' said Dinkel. "We want everyone to understand that it's not us making these rules, we just have to enforce them. It's the only way we can stay open."Dinkel employs a handful of families, including mother and son duos, as bartenders and servers."I have several families who depend on me here, not just my livelihood, but theirs," she added. "If you have customers coming in here not wanting to abide by the rules, it's not worth losing my business or getting in trouble for."Dinkel had to stand her ground last weekend when a group of women went in for dinner and drinks and caused a scene."They were dancing, I had to tell them 'ladies, I'm so sorry I can't have you standing within 6-feet with Ducey's new rules. Can you please take a seat?' They would say OK, and then again in a few minutes, they would still stand up," added Dinkel. "So at the end, I said ladies listen I need to either have you take a seat or need to have you exit with a mask. They just weren't listening."Surveillance video from 92 Drinks + Eats shows one of the four women stand up from the table, without a mask, and blow in Dinkel's face."In that moment, I was shocked," said Dinkel. "I told her to get out of my establishment immediately with all of her friends and I walked them over to the exit."Dinkel then started recording the group as some women started yelling. She says several of her employees joined her outside as the confrontation continued. Then says the same woman took things to another level."She actually reaches across my bartender and snatches my mask off of my face, throws it to the ground, scratches my face."Dinkel contacted Scottsdale police, who then contacted the group of women that night and issued no trespassing orders.On Friday, ABC15 confirmed the Scottsdale Police Department filed assault charges against one woman. No arrests have been made. Instead, the charges are being sent to prosecutors with a notice for the woman to appear in court."There's a global pandemic going on right now," said Dinkel. "For someone to be able to think that they can do that to another person is shocking... SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) - A driver told 10News she was terrified as she crashed through the front of a San Marcos doggy daycare Friday morning. The crash happened at Sandy Pawz, 630 Nordahl Road, as a crowd looked on. The driver was reportedly distracted by her own dog. “She decided to help me drive, and jumped up,” said the woman who only wanted to be identified as Robin. “Everything was crashing down on my windshield and I didn't know what was in front of me.” The car went past the front lobby and through drywall into a second room. “I consider myself a very smart person but I froze out of fear...fear, and then I thought I was going to die.” No pets or people were harmed. SAN QUENTIN, Calif. (KGTV) - A serial killer and former Camp Pendleton Marine who was sentenced to the death penalty may have killed himself at San Quentin State Prison Friday, prison officials said.Andrew Urdiales, 54, was found unresponsive during a security check of his cell late Friday night, according to staff members. Correctional officers performed CPR but Urdiales was pronounced dead less than an hour later.An autopsy will be performed but his death is being investigated as a suicide, officials said.RELATED: Serial killer convicted of Southern California murdersAn Orange County jury sentenced Urdiales to death one month ago for the murders of five women in San Diego, Mission Viejo, Palm Springs, and Cathedral City in the 1980s and 90s. Urdiales had been previously convicted of killing three Illinois women in the 1990s.Urdiales’ victim in San Diego, 31-year-old Maryann Wells, was shot in the head in a deserted industrial complex on Second Ave. in downtown San Diego in 1988. Investigators said Urdiales had sex with Wells then took back the he had paid her. Urdiales left behind a condom that eventually provided a DNA link, implicating him in the case.Another death row inmate was found dead Sunday night at San Quentin. Virendra Govin was convicted of killing four people by setting their home on fire in 2004. Govin's death is also being investigated as a suicide.
