SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Good Samaritan discovered a cat and her 11 kittens inside a downtown dumpster San Diego recently.The San Diego Humane Society said it's now caring for the cat and her kittens, which is a rare size for any litter.“A healthy litter this size is incredibly uncommon and certainly not something we see every day in the nursery,” said Jackie Noble, SDHS kitten nursery manager.RELATED: East County woman loses hundreds of dollars in pet scamThe Good Samaritan told SDHS it didn't appear the cat was dumped there and may have been using the dumpster as a safe place to hide and care for her kittens.SDHS said the animals are all in good health. The animals will remain there until the kittens are ready to be put up for adoption and the mother is spayed."As cute as the kittens are, a litter this large highlights the importance of spaying and neutering. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 6,000-gallon tanker carrying highly flammable ethanol overturned in Mission Valley Thursday afternoon, prompting a hazmat response. The tanker overturned near the intersection of San Diego Mission Road and Rancho Mission Road near SDCCU Stadium after 3:30 p.m. The entrance to the stadium was closed as crews cleared the scene. Authorities said 40-60 gallons of ethanol spilled and made their way to a nearby storm drain. Crews were able to prevent the ethanol from entering the San Diego River.According to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, crews drilled into the tank to remove additional fuel.The driver was injured as a result of the crash and was taken to the emergency room. His injuries are unknown at this time. SDFRD officials said the driver tried to make a 90-degree turn when the semi overturned. At around 2 a.m. Friday, crews were able to move the truck upright.Roads that were closed by the incident were expected to be reopened by 6 a.m. 986

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A border officer admitted in court Wednesday to putting his hands around a person's neck and shaking them at the Calexico Port of Entry two years ago.U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officer Esaul Bello, 53, pleaded guilty to using unreasonable force on the individual while on duty in the primary vehicle lane booth at the Calexico Port of Entry on Nov. 26, 2018.U.S. Attorney Office officials say during inspection, Bello placed both of his hands around the person's neck, even though they were not resisting. Officials say Bello then shook the person.The person was applying for admission to the U.S., officials said.As part of the plea, Bello agreed to resign from his position.“This is a rare and troubling situation,” said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer. “We will always move swiftly to protect the public from officers who use their power to violate another person's Constitutional rights.”Bello will be sentenced on June 2, 2020. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 55-year-old homeless man who was attacked with a skateboard while sleeping in North Park has died, San Diego Police said.Arthur Angulo was sleeping in alley in the 2800 block of El Cajon Boulevard  at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday when a man bashed him repeatedly with a skateboard, according to police.  Angulo suffered ``visible signs of major trauma to his upper body,'' San Diego police homicide Lt. Todd Griffin said.``The attack was unprovoked," officer Tony Martinez said over the weekend.RELATED: Sleeping homeless man attacked in North ParkAngulo was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where medical staff determined he would not survive and placed him on life support, Griffin said.He was removed from life support Thursday "and died in the hospital as the result of his injuries,'" Griffin said.Police said the attacker is white, about six feet tall, and between 19 and 26 years old. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A beloved grandmother and community icon has been taken off life support, days after a hit-and-run crash in Logan Heights."Always really happy, an outgoing person," said Brianda Ramos.Maria Estrada Romero, 52, was a mother of five and a grandmother of five."Really sad. Family members rushed to the hospital after learning Estrada Romero had been struck by a hit-and-run driver. She was walking near Cesar Chavez Parkway, headed to a bus stop. According to police, a white Ford F-150 turning right onto Kearney Avenue climbed onto the sidewalk and hit her, before taking off."The driver never got out of the truck. Basically left her right there," said Ramos. The scene that first day at the hospital: a packed emergency room, as family, friends, and customers turned out."They loved her because she sold really good food," said Ramos.For more than a decade, Estrada Romero became well-known for selling tamales at parks and schools in Southcrest and Bay Terraces. Some of those customers heard about the crash and joined the family at the hospital."In a way I was happy to know they were here with us, supporting us," said Estrada Romero.On Sunday night, Estrada Romero was taken off life support.
