(KGTV) — An inmate who escaped from San Quentin State Prison in Northern California the day after Christmas was apprehended Saturday about 200 miles away.Shalom Mendoza, 21, was reported missing just after 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 26 after he had been working outside of the prison perimeter with other inmates, according to the state Corrections and Rehabilitation Department (CDCR).Investigators began searching the surrounding area and say he appeared to have carjacked a Toyota Rav4 from a Home Depot parking lot in the San Rafael area.RELATED: San Quentin State Prison inmate escapes, suspected in carjackingThe Toyota was later found abandoned off the 101 Freeway north of Paso Robles on Friday. (KGTV) -- A woman traveling with her daughter was arrested after Border Patrol agents found nearly 30 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in her car.The arrest and seizure occurred July 21 during a traffic stop on northbound Interstate 5 in San Clemente, Customs and Border Protection officials said.According to CBP officials, an agent patrolling the area stopped a 2003 Honda Accord and asked the 38-year-old female driver for permission to search the car.After obtaining permission, the agent’s K-9 was alerted to something, prompting an in-depth inspection. The agent then found 28 bundles of meth inside the Accord’s gas tank.CBP officials said the bundles, weighing a total of 28.88 pounds, all tested positive for methamphetamine. The drugs were turned over to the DEA, and Border Patrol agents seized the car.Agents arrested the woman, a U.S. citizen; her six-year-old daughter was placed with child protective services. 933

(KGTV) — Firefighters battled a vegetation fire north of Fallbrook Saturday afternoon.Cal Fire firefighters reported the brush fire near the intersection of Deluz Rd. and Santa Margarita Trail in the Deluz area, north of Fallbrook.Dubbed the Santa Fire, the blaze was at 6 acres and 0% contained just before 2 p.m. Fire crews said there was no immediate structure threat in the area. Just before 2:30 p.m., Cal Fire reported that forward rate had been stopped and crews would remain on scene "to mop-up and build containment line."It's not clear how the fire began. 573
