A shopping trip for school supplies at a Texas Walmart ended in tragedy for a mother who was fatally shot while shielding her infant son from gunfire, her aunt told CNN.Jordan Anchondo and her husband were shopping for school supplies after dropping off their daughter at cheer practice when a gunman opened fire in an El Paso shopping center, Elizabeth Terry told CNN on Sunday.The mother of three later died at a hospital after using her body to protect her 2-month-old son, Terry said.Her husband, Andre, is still missing, the aunt said."How do parents go school shopping and then die shielding their baby from bullets?" It was the third mass shooting in the United States in a week -- and less than 24 hours later another deadly shooting spree in Dayton, Ohio, left nine dead.Families are still trying to identify loved ones.The baby was "pulled from under her body," said Terry, the sister of Anchondo's father, Paul, for whom the injured infant is named.The infant suffered broken fingers and is due to undergo an MRI, said Terry, who traveled from Sacramento after the shooting to be with her family in El Paso."My brother is devastated. We are just hoping and praying we find Andre alive. Any little hope that we can hold on to, that's what we are doing," Terry said.The first call of an active shooter went out at 10:39 a.m. local time, El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen said. A Spanish man spent his summer vacation paddling his way from the west coast of the U.S. across the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii.It took Antonio de la Rosa 76 days to paddle some 2,500 miles while standing on a submarine-shaped craft. He had planned to make the trip in 70 days, but suspects he drifted too far north at one point during his journey.He celebrated his 50th birthday at sea and arrived Saturday in Honolulu.de la Rosa said Monday that he's feeling a bit tired.He paddled eight-to-10 hours daily and slept every night. But he was always tired because he woke up hourly to check on his gear.In addition to a sleeping cabin, de la Rosa's boat included computers and GPS systems that ran on solar energy created by panels on the roof. A pregnant woman was found dead in Mississippi on Monday, less than a week after she disappeared, authorities said.Makayla Winston, 21, was last seen on Thursday leaving her home in Goodman, north of Jackson, Holmes County Sheriff Willie March said.Holmes County investigators found Winston's body off Franklin Road, near Highway 17, which is located south of Lexington, March told CNN.Winston's body will be taken to the state crime lab in Jackson to determine the cause of death, according to March.Winston was last seen in Goodman on Thursday night, her mother, Yvetty Brown, told 596

A quick burst of snow will blanket parts of the United States on Sunday, with more than 80 million people under winter weather alerts from Colorado to Maine.The storm began developing Saturday and brought snow to the Central Plains, and is expected to bring rain, snow or a wintery mix to much of the eastern United States.Snow had already started falling in the Midwest by early morning Sunday. It will move into the Ohio River Valley by midday then to the East in the afternoon and the overnight hours, CNN meteorologist Haley Brink said.New York, Philadelphia, and Boston will get rain Sunday afternoon and transition to a wintry mix of snow by evening. New York will get between 4-8 inches while Boston is expecting 5-10. A Wisconsin family is sending out pleas for help after their infant son was told he has just weeks to live without a new liver. Marcus Albers was born in October. His mother says there were complications with his pregnancy but he came out no worse for wear. However, he was diagnosed with Immunodeficiency 47; an extremely rare disorder that attacked his liver. "It's extremely rare," Whitney McLean, the boy's mother said. "From what we've been told, there are 12 cases in the world." Extremely rare but in this family twice. McLean says her two-year-old son Dominic also has the genetic disorder but it's not nearly as severe. "[Dominic] is on the liver transplant list but his condition isn't as critical," McLean said. The family found out about the disorder during the pregnancy with Marcus. McLean found out she was a carrier for the disease and there was no way she could have known because it's only present in boys. "My grandmother had all girls," McLean said. "My mom had all girls and we had two boys. My sister had a baby and it was a girl."Basically, McLean says because she's a carrier, she has one X-chromosome with the disorder and one without. Males have both an X and Y chromosome so she had a 50/50 chance of her son's having the disorder. If she had daughters, her family still wouldn't have any idea. "In the back of our minds, we were concerned of liver issues because of our oldest son," McLean said. "They started taking labs and they started to go in the wrong direction."Marcus' liver began to fail just about three weeks ago. An MRI showed significant liver damage. "We have been here ever since," McLean said. "He's already very resilient. There have been a lot of labs and what he's gone through, I don't think a lot of adults could handle. He's very resilient."McLean knows resiliency in a hospital setting. She's a nurse at Froedtert. So while she's encouraged by his strength at just five-months-old, her experience shows her how dire this situation is. "We were told Marcus has weeks to live and that was a week and a half ago," she said. "So it's pretty dire."That is, unless he gets a liver donation. The liver is one of many organs which can be donated by a living donor. In 2018, there were 36,518 organ donations in the United States. According to the U.S. Government Information on Organ Donation and Transplantation, this included kidneys (21,167), liver (8,250), heart (3,408), lung (2,530), kidney/pancreas (835), pancreas (192), intestine (104) and heart/lung (32).There were only 7,000 live donor transplants last year which accounted for less than 20 percent of all donations. Outside of heart transplants, most other transplants could have used a willing live donor. So more than 90 percent of the 2018 transplants could have potentially used a live donor. Something Marcus' family is praying for. "We don't have a lot of time," McLean said. "We need people who are serious and strict to the criteria. If you are serious and want to help us, we will take the help."The checklist is pretty extensive but not impossible.
