SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries after their small engine plane crashed near Montgomery Field Airport on Thursday afternoon.The incident was reported around 4:30 p.m. near the executive airport at Kearny Villa Road and Balboa Avenue.According to the San Diego Police Department, a witness said the plane crashed behind a building near the airport and was helping the pilot.The plane had just taken off from the airport when it clipped trees and crash landed in an open space behind the Kyocera business building on Balboa Avenue, said Dan Eddy, Battalion Chief of the San Diego Fire Department Two male passengers were responsive when crews arrived but were transported with major injuries.Police said there was no active fire and no structures or vehicles were damaged.Eddy estimated at least 20 gallons of fuel spilled from the wrecked plane.The plane missed a high voltage area by about 30 feet, said Eddy.No further information was provided at this time. 1004

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With COVID-19 pandemic-related regulations in effect across California, San Diego County leaders are putting together a task force to make sure local businesses following proper guidelines.County Supervisor Greg Cox announced the county’s plan for a “Safe Reopening Compliance Team,” which will assist businesses as they navigate how to safely operate during the pandemic.“This is going to be the carrot approach, not the stick approach. But I emphasis we still have the stick and other tools available to us and we will use them if necessary,” Cox said.The team will also help with the businesses that don’t seem to be complying with the new rules.Though county leaders haven’t spelled out exactly what role this team will play in enforcing the rules, the county has already received many public complaints about these types of businesses.Erick Hudson, a head coach from CrossFit Humanity, said it’s frustrating to hear about these complaints as they try to adhere to the rules that everyone is being asked to follow.“If a business is just blatantly ignoring the rules, a lot of people congregating without those masks, without having to socially distance, then it’s like who knows how much longer this situation is going to last,” said Hudson.The county has not released a timeline as to when this team will hit the streets. 1354

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Someone sliced through the window of an Ocean Beach resident's vehicle but thankfully couldn't get it to start.Now he's worried about who they might hit next. "So we look out for each other so the idea that someone would come overnight steps from where I sleep, steps from where my kids sleep, you know and try to steal your car, it's angering," David Levine said.An anger that probably won't go away until Levine gets the window on his jeep fixed. "I put tape over it already but there are two big slices here and then a slice here," Levine said.Someone sliced into his 1999 Jeep Wrangler, but Levine knows it could've been much worse."There's bent metal. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While enjoying a moment at the park over the weekend, a Carlsbad family was on the receiving end of an act of kindness from a stranger. The family says they are now hoping to find that person to say thank you.After months of staying at home, the family was excited to spend a day at Buccaneer Park in Oceanside. Eleven-year-old Jacobi and 12-year-old Jordan couldn’t wait to get outside.“They’re too old of the playground area, the swings and things like that,” says mom Tamara Coronado. “They look forward to the open space, the grass area, and definitely the basketball courts.”But Coronado says park officials had not yet reinstalled the basketball hoops, something the boys were looking forward to. The kids were left to make up their own games. It caught the attention of one man.“Forty-five minutes to an hour later, he came back… with a crafting reef from Dollar Tree and a very small basketball that would fit inside.”The man used a power drill to attach the wreath to a tree to form a makeshift hoop so that the boys could play basketball.“All that he asked was that we leave the wreath and the ball in place so that after we left, other families could use it,” says Coronado. “But the fact that he went out of his way like he did was, I just couldn’t believe it.”The mom says even though a lot is going on around the country, she wants others to know there are still kind people in the world. The family didn’t get the man’s name, but they’re hoping to find him to say thank you.“He may have not thought twice about it, and hasn’t thought about it since, but he really touched me and my family.” 1632
