MILWAUKEE -- A suspicious package investigation in downtown Milwaukee took an unexpected turn Monday when a bystander suddenly walked up to the item in question and began rummaging through it, prompting investigators to tackle him. The backpack was reported shortly before 7 a.m., prompting a response by Milwaukee Police and the bomb squad.Video shows the man crossing the police tape, walking up to the backpack and dumping out the contents. It’s not clear if the man had any connection to the investigation. Police have not released any other information at this time. 614

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - National City Treasurer Mitchel Beauchamp is facing multiple charges of animal cruelty Tuesday, including unlawfully trapping skunks and opossums.Court records obtained by 10News indicate the San Diego County District Attorney’s office believes Beauchamp maliciously and intentionally maimed, mutilated, tortured, wounded and killed an animal.Beauchamp told 10News he had a pest problem. He invited our crew into his yard to show us the humane trap he had been using. He also showed the crew where animals were moving from the canyon into his yard.According to County Animal Services, residents are allowed to relocate skunks and possums within a mile from their homes using a humane trap. Experts say the best way to keep pests out of your yard is to keep the area clean and don’t set out food. They recommend you hire a humane professional or learn to live with the animals.Beauchamp could be sentenced to up to one year in jail if convicted on all six counts.  1007

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Every week, hundreds of people from around the world visit The Free Pizza Dude account on Imgur, created by a Nashville man, to either ask for food assistance or help out."I've been able to carve out this kind of wholesome side of Imgur where people come to my post to help other people," said Mr. Puckett, the virtual Imgur user with more than 7 million up-votes. "We had all of these people kind of wanting to help, but had no idea how to."In August 2019, Mr. Puckett created The Free Pizza Dude page to help connect the people in need of a meal to willing donors."We're not trying to end world hunger we're trying to make people happy. [Those] who would not otherwise be able to afford this kind of food," said Mr. Puckett.So far, the page has allowed people to send nearly 4,000 pizzas to strangers in need.Mr. Puckett knows what it is like to be hungry."I had problems with alcohol and was homeless for four years before I got on Imgur. I knew if I ever got on my feet again, I wanted to do something where we could send food to people that wasn't rice and beans - that wasn't food shelf kind of food - something they could really enjoy and remember for some time because I always did and I always remembered the food people sent me," he said.Through his website, pizza angels from all over the world have sent paid-for pizzas to strangers and fulfilled more than 100 detailed grocery requests too."Everybody wants to help, but they want to have fun doing it, and they want to have security that they're helping the right person, and I think we've done all three of those things," he said.Mr. Puckett puts out a new call for pizza donations every Friday.He said the reason he does this is simple."I was homeless for so long and so many people from my childhood days helped me. Most Americans will spend more to heat their homes this winter, according to the US Energy Information Administration, part of the Department of Energy.As coronavirus pandemic safety measures continue around the country, more Americans will be spending more time in their homes this winter compared to previous years. Spending more time in the home for work and school plus the projected forecast for a colder winter, could combine for an increase in natural gas, electricity and propane heating costs.“EIA generally expects more space heating demand this winter compared with last winter based on forecasts from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that indicate colder winter temperatures. U.S. average heating degree days in this forecast are 5% higher than last winter,” the agency stated.The EIA is projecting households will spend about 6 percent more than last year if they use natural gas, 7 percent more if they use electricity and between 12-18 percent more than last year if using propane for heat this winter.Those using heating oil could see a decrease of about 10 percent this year over their heating bills last year, according to the agency.In their short-term energy outlook report, the EIA also said renewable sources of electricity will grow in 2020 and into next year.“EIA forecasts that renewable energy will be the fastest-growing source of electricity generation in 2020. EIA expects the U.S. electric power sector will add 23.3 gigawatts (GW) of new wind capacity in 2020 and 7.3 GW of new capacity in 2021,” the report stated.They also expect a 26 percent decrease in US coal production in 2020.“COVID-19 and efforts to mitigate it along with reduced demand from the U.S. electric power sector amid low natural gas prices have contributed to mine idling and mine closures,” they stated.The agency is also projecting a 10 percent decrease in US energy-related carbon dioxide emissions in 2020, as a result of reduced consumption of fossil fuels.
