SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Family and friends of a disabled Clairemont woman are making a plea for the arrest of a hit-and-run driver who left her with serious injuries.Last week, a beaming Delores Odom appeared at a surprise party for her 59th birthday. One of the attendees was her friend and neighbor Maritza Gates. "She was so happy that day. It breaks my heart to see her in the hospital now in so much pain," said Gates. On Saturday just before 6:30 p.m., Odom decided to take a walk to grab dinner. She was crossing westbound on Genesee Avenue in the south crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle that had been going westbound on Derrick Drive and made a left turn to southbound Genesee Avenue, according to police.Odom's daughter Brianna says her mother broke her back in two places. Odom has feeling in her toes, but still faces possible paralysis and requires complicated back surgery. Her recovery and rehabilitation is made more challenging because of a decades-old diagnosis of multiple sclerosis. "There's a special place for people like that. I don't understand how you could hurt someone and then leave them. My mom is one of the nicest people ever. You don't know someone's story when you leave them to die on the street," she said.Police say there is no description of the vehicle and are looking for witnesses. Animals, package thieves.But one Poway camera caught something else that has some parents and teachers scratching their heads.Joanne Woodward, a 2nd-grade Poway Unified School District teacher, says a doorbell camera caught a school board member hanging election flyers on door handles.The problem? The flyers featured scathing "report cards" of members up for re-election containing false information. "My students would be shocked, all of the students at our school would be shocked to think that an adult, a role model at our school, would do something like this," Woodward said.The video was taken in the days leading up to the election. It shows Poway Unified school board member Kimberley Beatty and her husband, Edward, placing the door hangers on handles in Poway.The "report cards" claimed that the two members up for re-election had colluded with criminals, used taxpayer dollars for themselves, and wouldn't let students speak at meetings."Just appalling," Woodward added. There's the issue of who the flyer claims paid for the materials: "Citizens for Sound Governance." A group that — if it really existed — would more than likely have to formally file to be a committee because of how much money they spent."The intention there was to undermine our re-election," said T.J. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hillcrest will soon be home to San Diego’s first rainbow crosswalk to represent the community’s role in LGBTQ+ history. The rainbow crosswalk, similar to those in cities like San Francisco and Seattle, will be located at Normal Street and University Avenue. “The installation of a rainbow crosswalk has been a long-standing goal of the San Diego LGBTQ+ community. Hillcrest deserves a visual representation of the LGBTQ+ movement and its goals of visibility, acceptance and inclusion,” said Councilmember Chris Ward’s office. A celebratory event called “Catwalk on the Crosswalk” will take place Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. The San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus and Women’s Chorus will perform and cupcakes will be provided by Babycakes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Homes burned overnight Sunday as the Valley Fire raged through the East County, burning thousands of acres and prompting a state of emergency declaration.Video from the scene showed structures and vehicles scorched by the flames. So far, 11 structures have been destroyed by the fire.As of Sunday at 8:47 p.m., the fire has so far scorched 9,850 acres and is 1% contained, Cleveland National Forest says.Evacuation orders have been issued for Barrett Lake Dam, while evacuation warnings have been issued for Lake Marina, Dulzura, Dog Patch, Potrero, Campo, Honey Springs, Barrett Junction, Dearhorn Valley, Corte Madera, Pine Valley, and the area from Lyons/Japatul Valley Rd. to the 8 Freeway.Overnight into Monday, fire crews say the fire is expected to remain active because of the lack of overnight moisture.Structures are being threatened in the Carveacre and Lawson Valley, Wood Valley, Lyons Valley, and Deer Horn Valley. The agency added that power lines that supply a large portion of San Diego County are also threatened.SDG&E says they are working with CalFire to solve any outages due to the fire, but need to wait for approval for their crews to be allowed into the area and to re-energize power lines.
