SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A pair of North San Diego County residences may become the latest local site to receive a national historic place designation.The Boathouses in Encinitas will be considered at an Aug. 1 meeting by the California State Historical Resources Commission to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.On 3rd Street, the pair of boathouses, known as the S.S. Moonlight and the S.S. Encinitas, sit blocks from the water but remain very much connected to 1920s life on the water. They were always intended to be homes and not actual vessels, but also meant to replicate the appearance and scale of boats at the time.Today, the homes represent what the California agency calls "an architecturally significant example of Fantasy-themed programmatic residential architecture." In short: Residential architecture meant to resemble something other than a traditional building.The boathouses were purchased by the Encinitas Preservation Association in 2008 and are currently rented out as private homes. Once the loan is paid off though, the plan is to convert the pair of quirky dwellings into a small museum.But explorers can visit the homes anytime on 3rd St. or do so with a helping of history from the Encinitas Historical Society during guided walking tours every third Saturday between Sept. and July. 1564

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A judge decided Wednesday not to order a second trial for the man accused in the disappearance and murder of his stepson.Tieray Jones cried after the decision was made in the downtown courthouse.Jones was charged with killing 2-year-old Jahi Turner. Jahi was last seen at a park near Balboa Park in April 2002. Jones reported the boy missing, telling police Jahi wandered off.A mistrial was declared in for Jones on March 16.Jones was facing several charges including second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter. Two jurors found Jones guilty of murder while 10 did not. 10 jurors found Jones guilty of involuntary manslaughter and two did not.During the trial, the judge asked if jurors would be able to reach a verdict if given more time to deliberate. After Jahi disappeared, a countywide search followed. Thousands of people looked for the boy in the park and Golden Hill neighborhood. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after police say he stabbed his friend, then returned to watching a UFC fight.The stabbing happened on the 3000 block of Midway Drive around 9:15 p.m. Saturday. Police say the two friends took a Lyft from downtown to the Midway District when they got into a fight.After leaving the car, the pair’s argument became even more heated before the suspect, Paul McNett, 43, wrapped his arm around the victim’s neck and stabbed him in the front of his neck.RELATED: Man shot during road rage incident in Del CerroAfter the stabbing, McNett stayed at the restaurant to watch the UFC fight.The 55-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A mother and son who died in a shooting at a Linda Vista home earlier this week were identified by San Diego police.On Dec. 7, at around 3:15 a.m., officers were called to a home in the 2200 block of Crandall Drive in response to a shooting.Responding officers found a man and a woman inside the home with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies, according to police.The woman, identified as 46-year-old Hue Le, died from her injuries at the hospital.RELATED: Mother dead, son gravely injured in Linda Vista shootingThe injured man, identified as the deceased woman’s 28-year-old son Justin Le, was placed on life support but police said he passed away on Tuesday evening.According to police, Justin Le’s injuries appeared to be self-inflicted.The case is being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide, San Diego police said.No other details on the case were released. 895

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A measure that would increase property tax bills to pay for thousands of affordable housing units has moved closer to the November ballot.On Tuesday, the San Diego City Council voted 6-3 to support what's called a resolution of necessity about the measure. It directed city staff to prepare language for the council to approve for the November ballot.The San Diego Housing Federation, which brought the measure forward, says it would pave the way for an estimated 7,500 affordable housing units. Of those, 5,000 would be for the homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless, while another 2,500 would be for low-wage working families. Once it is fully in place, an owner of a median priced home of 0,000 would pay an average of about 0 per year. The measure would require a two-thirds majority vote.
