(KGTV) — Recent wildfires that have been fueled by extreme weather conditions across California are already among the state's largest wildfires, burning a combined more than half a million acres.According to CalFire, the LNU Lightning Complex and SCU Lightning Complex fires are already the second- and seventh-largest wildfires in California history, respectively. Both fires are believed to have been caused by lightning strikes.The fires are two of more than 500 burning across the state as of Friday. Many of those fires were sparked by lightning strikes earlier this week.The LNU Lightning Complex sparked Monday just north of Napa and has burned 302,388 acres. That blaze was 15% contained Friday. The SCU Lightning Complex fire started Tuesday east of San Francisco and has burned 229,968 acres. As of Friday, it was 10% contained.Gov. Gavin Newsom says the blazes across the state are taxing California's firefighting capacity, but that assistance from 10 states is starting to arrive. CalFire Chief Mark Brunton pleaded with residents to leave their homes and not to battle the fires themselves, saying that could put more lives at risk.According to the Associated Press, more than 12,000 firefighters, helicopters, and air tankers were deployed Friday to battle wildfires throughout the state. 1311

(KGTV) — The Navy pilot killed when his F/A-18E Super Hornet aircraft crashed in California desert this week has been identified.Lt. Charles Z. Walker, 33, died in the Wednesday crash in a canyon in Death Valley National Park. Officials say the military aircraft was conducting low-level training about 40 miles north of Naval Weapons Station China Lake.“The NAS Lemoore aviation family is grieving the loss of one of our own,” said Capt. James Bates, Strike Fighter Wing Pacific commander, said. “Lt. Walker was an incredible naval aviator, husband and son. He was an integral member of the Vigilante family and his absence will be keenly felt on the flight line. (KGTV) - More than 150 Coachella concert-goers had to face the music after fraudulently using disabled parking placards or parking spaces.Indio Police checked nearly 2,000 placards during the two-weekend run of Coachella Valley Music Festival. At least 135 guests were cited for fraudulent using placards and another 18 were cited for using disabled parking without a permit.The ratio was less than the previous year, according to the state Department of Motor Vehicles, dropping from one in every 13 people to one in every seven.RELATED: Earthquake felt by Coachella attendees during music festival's final dayThose who abuse use of the placard can have their placard confiscated, receive a misdemeanor citation, and be fined anywhere from 0 to ,000.The violation also appears on offenders' driving record."When someone misuses a disabled person parking placard, it impedes the mobility of our disabled community," said Jean Shiomoto, DMV Director. “I’m asking all able-bodied Californians to save the space." 1033
